Another New Guy - Qld

Hey everyone,

Having used the info on here for a while, figured I'd own up now that I own a MY10 Lib GT Wagon.

It's stock as a rock, 5AT, graphite grey, and will mostly be driven by the Missus as the family wagon when I'm at work. Not that it's going to stop me driving it every chance I get when I'm home. I picked it up Friday, and yesterday had the tint done. I seriously have no idea how anybody can drive a car with no tint on the front windows! The privacy glass on the rear helps a bit, but doesn't cut out the UV, so I had some light tint put over the rear glass too.

Plans at this stage are very few. I need to update the maps in the nav (dl'ing now thanks to the thread on here), and have cobbled together some cables to keep the wife happy and able to use her ipod for the stereo. Will definitely be looking at getting the factory ipod cable in the future though. I am pretty keen to get the sports grill for the front too. Does anyone know off hand what Subaru charge for this? And do they come painted? Possbily some dark rims are in order as well, something that will sit out a little further than standard.

Here is a nasty phone pic I took after the tint yesterday.

Look forward to reading more and meeting a few of you down the track.

Cheers
Adam.

Welcome mate, I don't think we have many Gen5s in QLD so it'll be interesting to see at a meet.

About the grille, I'd say that JapanParts would be a good place to start as I'll bet they are significantly cheaper than Subaru would charge. Is this the one you were after?

Looks like it comes unpainted.

Keen to see more pics too

Oh nice, thanks for the link! That's the one, I've seen quite a few of the 5gens on here have it and I think it transforms the front end looks completely.

The bus got pretty dirty today. Took it for a big drive through the country side with my girls. Will give it a tub tomorrow and maybe break out the camera.

Thanks again.

Welcome to the forums :)

Re the subaru mesh grille - i dont think it comes painted, that would be extra cost on top

As ferret said, checkout japanparts to see other alternative grille options ... the corazon grille is pretty nice. Another thing you could do is paint the stock grille black (to reduce the amount of chrome upfront)

Welcome mate!

Hope to see you on the next QLD cruise (Late September/early October).
It will be good to see a Gen 5 :)

Guess there's a first time for everything:P

But yes, do come along to the next Liberty gathering being held, as more is always merrier!

Oh, and also welcome to the board. Remember to browse in moderation, else that short list of mods is going to turn into a long list very qucikly.

LOL - It's amazing how fast that front end grows on you once you own one :P

Why did I have to spend 2 hours browsing japanparts last night :( My only saving grace is I'll need to get any modifications past the wife (not that this has been much of an issue in the past). My biggest restriction is that I've been given a flat out NO to any lowering.

Back to the sports grill, it seems that this one from japanparts lets you choose colour, so I'm hoping that means it'll come painted! Might get that on the way soon.

I did see that one too, and it appears that it would come painted. I didn't like the extra large metal border around it though. Personally I'd prefer a thin border with more mesh, but it is convenient when they come painted.
About the lowering, you could always get some STI pink springs as they are only a 10-15mm low and she probably wouldn't even notice :P
I don't mind the front end of the Gen 5 actually, its the rear that I'm not a fan of. If they fixed those rear lights and made it slightly less boxy, it'd be a winner. Still keen to have a close inspection at the next meet :D

Haha, I think the rear end of the wagon is far more palatable than the sedan!

The pink STI springs sound very appealing... especially as I just washed the car and realised I can't quite reach the centre line of the roof  Fkn short arse. Anyway, was too dark to take any pics when I finished, so figured I'd throw up a couple of pics of my previous cars.

This is the car that we traded on the wagon. Was stock apart from lowering/wheels/tint. Was great for what it was: a comfortable, reliable, quiet daily drive for the wife and I.
Image

Before the Yewro I had this little Pug 306 XSi. Also stock, just with a decent stereo for company. It was great fun through the twisties and surprised many of my friends/others through Nebo/Springbrook etc. Problem was, this little bugger got very expensive very fast when things went wrong... which happens on a 200+km pug.
Image

This car however, is what started it for me. I only sold it trying to make myself grow up, was getting married etc. I bought it from Japan, and fresh off the boat it had adjustable suspension, nismo strut bars, and soon after got a FMIC, full turbo back exhaust, AVCR for boost control, CAI and made about 170awkw running 1 bar. I'd love to find a clean one for sale for the right price one day, however, they are pretty much all shagged these days.
Image

As you can see, I've had the plates for a while! Same exact set, no replacements yet. I'm considering getting a brand new set for the LGT, as they are starting to look pretty second hand after going through 4 cars.
Cheers
Adam.

Redbucket from over PF way I presume? Did cracka's constant talk about Liberties get you on board?

Yeah, one and the same Kia. I work with a bunch of guys who used to work with cracka.... They're always talking about him, so I'm really just trying to be as cool as him. Not sure I'll ever get there though.

Here are a few pics I took the other evening. Sorry about them being so dark, I adjusted them on my PC, which I think the screen must be over brightened a touch, as when I opened them on my laptop/phone, they're pretty damn dark!

Obviously it looks just like any other gen 5, so nothing special lol.

Fixed the picture links that were broken

Also, now have a sports mesh grill on the way thanks to Horizontal Boxer! Really looking forward to that arriving. I've spent the last few days scouring the web for wheels/making inquiries, but I think I've finally decided I'll leave them stock for at least the time being. The wife drives it 70% of the time anyway, so I'd hate to have to give her an uppercut for gutter rashing a nice set of enkeis (the current stock wheels are already scraped from the original owner).

I am leaning towards a couple of other ricey additions. The Valenti smoked rear LED tail lights that one of the members keeps spamming about.... A small STI style front lip and some STI pink springs. I promised the wife I wouldn't lower this car, but 15mm.... I'll try slide it through without her noticing :D

Sounds like nice plans.

I hope you're looking at 19's if you do decide to get wheels? I think they are perfect for the Gen 5
