Hi all. I'm from Melbourne. I'm a 36yr old product designer which means I'm very picky about the products I choose to buy. I bought a used MY06 3.0L Premium Outback just over 5 years ago and the car never once skipped a beat. I loved it, and so did my wife. The back seat was a bit small though, especially when we started having kids. Anyway, I leased the vehicle and the residual I owed at the end forced me to sell it. I was sad to see it go and I have been borrowing my mother-in-law's car for two months wondering what kind of car I should buy. I test drove Commodore Sportwagons and Falcons (1) because I couldn't afford a 5GEN Outback 3.6L and, (2) because the Outback is uuuuugly! Then one day I was filling up my mother-in-laws i-30 at the petrol station and in came a white 5GEN Subaru Wagon I liked the look of. Lo-and-behold it was a GT, and I haven't been able to get the car out of my head ever since. So after months of searching (why are there hardly any GT Wagons for sale in VIC??) and being heartbroken by prices I finally came across this little beauty in SA...

...Anyway, I'm not a GT owner yet but I'm only a test drive away this Saturday...wish me luck!

Why is the bonnet and windscreen of that picture, photoshopped on?

That white GT wagon looks quite familiar (rims and the front lip) - I remember seeing something very similar on the forums previously

I'm going to drive it today so we'll all know soon enough if the car actually has a real sun roof and bonnet! While I'm here I'd also like to get some feedback on my concern that the vehicle is too low for daily use as a family wagon? Am I going to scrape and bang on every undulation? Apparently it's 15-20mm lower than stock.

Welcome to the forum. I can see what people mean, the windscreen and the sunroof look a little weird, hopefully just the light.

Easiest way to prove it was to come to the meet next weekend at Tru Track.

I can formally and officially end all speculation by announcing that the vehicle does in fact have a NON-photoshopped bonnet and sunroof! It is indeed the reflection of the building.

Hmmm beers took over great news mate !

I thought I'd jump on here to thank you SYM for your keen eye and for taking the time to dig up those posts from several years ago. I was a bit unsure about the car until I saw that the previous owner SUBIMAN was clearly a Subaru man who took a lot of pride in his car. I went back through his posts and was able to confirm the Dealers account of the mods was in-line with SUBIMANS post history, so I was very confident that my flights to Adelaide from Melbourne for a test drive were worth it.

I hope you'll all be happy to know that I bought the car a week ago and the first thing I did was hit the road up over the hills out of Adelaide in the early afternoon and point the nose at the open road toward Melbourne. The drive was perfect to get to know the new wheels; I had a clear afternoon followed by early evening rain patches at dusk; I hit rough patchy bitumen roads at 110km/hr; I was diverted along about 10km of dirt roads and through ruts and puddles because of an accident outside Horsham dirt; overtook B-Doubles on single lane roads at night; and finally cruised across the Westgate and down the Nepean Hwy through countless traffic lights to my Bayside home.

Needless to say I am happy to be driving a nice Satin White GT Wagon I christened "Scott" after my recently deceased 26yr old mechanic cousin who did his apprenticeship at Subaru in Artarmon, Sydney.

I'm also happy to be posting here amongst Subaru aficionados, although I must admit to being a bit put-off that most of the replies were concerned with whether or not the photo had been photoshopped rather than answer any of my questions. Anyway, I'm here as a genuine Liberty owner now, and I look forward to posting and reading here more often and maybe even joining a cruise.

SUBIMAN - I tried contacting you directly via this website but it appears you have been inactive for some time now. From my research and chats with the Dealer in Adelaide I was able to learn that you traded in your old car (my new car) at a Nissan Dealership and I wonder what kind of Nissan you picked up to replace the GT? In any case I think I got a pretty good deal because the white GT is a real head turner with the 19" wheels, tint and STi spoiler kits. Getting a RWC for VIC was no problem and the guys at Subaru Mentone confirmed the car was in good nick - so thanks for looking after it!
