Introduce yourself

Hi all, new member here

Postby Chris08GT » Fri Mar 29, 2013 2:34 pm

Hi everyone, my name is Chris.

I just bought an 08 Liberty GT wagon tuned by STi.

The car is in Perth and will be transported to Melbourne next week.

I've been doing some research as to what can be done to the cars.

I found MRT performance in Sydney and from what I can see they seem to know alot about what can be done to these cars and how to do it.

Being based about 1 1/2 hours to the west of Melbourne, I was hoping one of the members might know a business in the West of Melb that does a similar job to MRT?

Im very excited about getting the car, from all Ive read they look like alot of fun!

Any advice on what you'd suggest doing to the car from your own experiences would also be appreciated. It sounds like the dump pipe needs to be early on the list!

Welcome.

I have heard more bad things than good things about MRT. They are good at marketing though.

There is a wealth of knowledge on here although you sometimes have to do a bit of searching to find specifics.

There are a bunch of Melbourne members on here that have tried out a number of melbourne workshops and could direct you to their preferred ones.
Hopefully they will make themselves known.

What are your modification plans?

Welcome chris!
MRT could be fine, but theyre 3 times the price of other tuners. So youre not missing much by living interstate from them. :D

Hi guys,

Thanks for the replies/advice.

I'm not planning on anything too extreme, perhaps just a retune, air filter, change the dump pipe, 3" exhaust and maybe to finish tmic and larger turbo.

They seem to be the standard mods people are doing without changing any engine internals.

First thing though once the car arrives is to get the 48,000km service done. El cheapo dealer in perth changed the oil and filter (with cheapest possible Im sure) and put 2 chinese no name tyres on it.

Any advice on where to start with mods would be appreciated :) I'll certainly look over the forum though as well.

Welcome,

Pop a set of good tyres like Bridgestone R050's, Re002's or Goodyear Eagle F1 Asym 2's.

Sway bars and AVO HD swaybar mounts for the rear.

The into the exhaust, intercooler, turbo VF52(?) or bigger(?) & retune.

Thats how I would do it....

Good luck & hope to meet you at a WA gathering soon.

Hi again all,

I've spent quite a few hours looking over the forum.

I just wanted to say how impressed I was, not only with your cars but with your helpful attitudes, members have gone out of their way to assist and advise, very cool group of people!

The only downside is my 08 GT is in Perth (hopefully getting transported today) and after seeing all the cool cars I want it here now! :)

Did you fly over and test drive your GT, or get someone else to test it for you?
I purchased mine from SA and drove it back to NSW. I wish i had transported mine back.. it cost more to drive it back and took a lot longer as youd imagine.

No I didnt even think to fly over and test drive it myself, the car is at a dealer, I had RAC there look over it and all looks good.

I did read your post about you picking yours up in SA. Perth was just too far, CEVA Logistics are transporting it in an enclosed trailer to Geelong for $700. Cheaper and less headaches than collecting it from Perth, adding kms to the car etc. Although I wouldve enjoyed the trip!

I think you made the right choice getting it transported. You will get it sooner, and its cheaper and less time consuming.

By the sounds of it you'll have it before the weekend so thats the main thing :D

Hahaha.. how can that be?
I guess they must sit it in a yard for a few days until a truck becomes available to transport it. If not that theyre going the long way via Darwin

I've been in that boat, mate!
Smart move getting it transported. You'll be ecstatic when you go and pick it up! Hopefully it doesn't take too much longer :D

I called around and all car transporters are at least 9 days, you are right the car will sit at their yard until a truck becomes available.

My big head ruled over my little head.

The idea of getting on a plane and having a road trip sounded very exciting.....then I though of airfare, fuel, wear and tear on the car, kms, potential risk of speeding fines, motels each night....etc etc

Will just have to be patient for 9 more days......grrrrr
