Hi everybody

Introduce yourself

Hi everybody

Postby Liberty » Wed Oct 24, 2012 3:48 pm

No, my name isn't Dr Nick.

My name's Gary and after registering at Suby Club, the boys over there referred me to this club to broaden my resources for some Subaru education. I am new to the Suby world so cut me some slack if I ask a silly question, we've all gotta start somewhere. If you haven't figured it out yet, I'm here because my next car will definitely be a Subaru Liberty. Now I've got some basic knowledge when it comes down to the Liberty but my knowledge of cars on a more broad scale is pretty good. I'm obsessed with cars and have always wanted to have a car I could work on, I just haven't really found it yet until I set eyes on a Liberty. I'll cut things short for this intro though and give some more intro-y information.

Cars I've owned include a Holden VL Commodore Executive and Holden VS Commodore Acclaim (current but blew the engine on Saturday night last week - spewing). I'm 24, live in Sydney, am Australian-Portuguese and have lived overseas for four years. I won't go into too much more detail as I really don't want a Nigerian lottery scammer to come knocking at my door...

I'm glad that I was referred to this place as well and I hope to scab as much info as I can from the greater Subaru community.

welcome Gary. The Subaru's are a big step up from the aussie falcadores thats for sure. You've come to the right place.

Looking forward to hearing and seeing more of the Lib your looking for or have got.
Cheers

Thanks shav, so I've been told. It'll definitely be a major upgrade considering the fact that I'm thinking more along the lines of being mature and thoughtful with the new purchase. I was initially going to get an S15 but feel that it will just get me into trouble and I'll either be bankrupt or dead, ha ha! Either way the Liberty is a good decision I think and I can't wait to get my hands on one.

I haven't made the purchase yet but after blowing my engine over the weekend, I've finally got the motivation to actively look around. I've created a topic in the Wanted to Buy forum so hopefully I can get some feedback. After looking through CarSales on a daily basis though, I just found six cars that meet my criteria! That's a good sign, right? :P

Welcome mate! Can't go wrong with the H6 (saw your other thread). Decent exhaust and they sound mint!

willkommen! when you buy that Subaru you'll be plenty broke after some of the stuff available to you here. Especially being in Sydney means your near the Subaru bankrupt central called 'Garage 88'

and hopefully you'll have a lib by the time December rolls around and you can join the big end of year cruise

After a lifetime of owning Fords mate, I know where your coming from. The quality between the Subaru's and Falcadores is chalk and cheese. Plus AWD is killer as well as better resale. Lots of pro's to be had with these cars. I too am heading in the more 'mature' aspect of life and the Subaru's tend to fit all my criteria of 'better' to suit my personal lifestyle.

With those cars you found on the net, while they may meet your requirements, I would make sure you get an independent inspection done on any of them you are serious about. Check log book history, Have a look at the owners family, do they have kids, pets, what kind of lifestyle do they lead. It's all a reflection be it small or large on how the car was treated. Might sound super critical, but it could be the difference between a great car and a dodgy one. Buying a car from here, most of the members here will be enthusiasts so use your logic and you'll come out on top.
Cheers

I'm ready for it and I'm pretty sure it's anyone's plan not to spend much on their cars. Joke's on them though, I'm already writing down things I wanna get and mods I want to do! I've only ever owned a VL and VS Commodore in the past. Not much you can do with them when you haven't got a full time job. Only had a full time job when I bought the VS but I didn't really wanna spend money on it; I have a feeling the Liberty will be a whole different story...

I'm keen on cruises and meets. Count me in.

@shav: I can only imagine! My parents have now have a VY Berlina and Toyota Prado, but the family cars used to be a blue Kingswood, gold-brown Kingswood and VP Commodore so I've pretty much grown up with Holden. Can't wait to see how good of a difference it will be and I'll take your word on it being chalk and cheese.

I am definitely going to bring along someone that can do a thorough inspection as it's gonna be a car that I wanna keep for quite a few years and I wouldn't want it bailing on me like my VS did. All the things you have listed are all things I already do when buying a car. Looks like great minds think alike. Thanks for the advice man, I appreciate it.

If you're über keen we have a meet next Saturday @ Rhodes (if you're reasonably local I don't mind giving you a lift) but there's always the cruise mid-December to look forward to and by then you should have a set of wheels!

I won't be able to make it next Saturday but thanks for the offer man. I hope to have the car by then... I need it for work and I can feel my parents getting more and more impatient as I continue using their car. :P

And I'm now the proud owner of a Liberty!

Bought it in early December. I've just been a little lazy in posting about it on this forum. I'll be sure to post up a build thread tomorrow though. Thank you for the warm welcome guys and I'm hoping to be a bit more active around here.

Ha ha, you got that right.

I took it for its first minor service at ICHIban just to get a check up and everything which revealed some issues. Nothing major that will prevent me from driving the wagon of course but it definitely will need attention soon. Mainly just seals and brakes. I'll list it all in my build thread when I write it up this afternoon.

I gotta find a new job! Ha ha!

Congratulations Gary!!
Youve definitely made the right choice!
You wont know yourself with the build quality of the liberties after owning commodores. I can give you a 99% guarantee that your roof lining will not fall off in your liberty

Thanks a lot peadya100 (you're on SubyClub too right? I have the same username and avatar on there too). I hope I have and so far things have only looked up. I did have a problem with the roof lining falling in my VS. Pissed me off big time. There is honestly nothing that I can flaw in the Liberty. The only thing I need to fix is the trim/lining around the sunroof. It seems to be loose and loses its 'hinge' effect when I open the sunroof cover. I'll just take it off, squeeze the trim and put it back on. Should be fine.

Thanks shav! I've only had positive feedback from everyone about the purchase so it's really comforting to hear it.
