Hi All,
I’m Dave from Sydney. I have an Rx8 PZ but my wife is expecting our first child in February so we need something bigger. I plan to sell the PZ and buy a stock liberty tuned by STI.
I’m looking forward to learning a lot from this forum and meeting up with some of you for cruises/drive days and maybe track days.

Sorry if this has been asked a 100 times before but I cannot find the info anywhere.
Does anybody know what are the official Subaru, stock 0-100km/hr times for each of the following Sedan ‘Tuned by STI’ cars:
2.0L ’06 Auto
2.0L ’06 Manual
2.5L ’07 Auto
2.5L ’07 Manual
This information would really help me with the decision (I already have power, torque and weight)

Theyre such different cars that your question is irrelevent.

A 2.5L is infinitely more livable than a 2.0L
One has brembos, big diff, best gearbox you'll ever find in a family car, etc. Other is a GT liberty with some wheels and a badge.

I'd take a 3.0RB over both of them any day of the week, but I'm biased

0-100 times are largely irrelevent. The clutch etc wont stand up to being abused hard, an 06 STI will shit its gearbox out under the car when attempting to match any advertised time.
All of them (2.0, 2.5, 3.0) perform decently enough as a daily, but the 3.0 is the most friendly in a manual and best drivers car, 2.5 the ultimate winner for outright power and mod potential, and 2.0 wins at being least favorable of the 3.

Agreed just dont get a 2.0 litre if you want comfort. (even though its clearly the most fun)

Also... pick Auto or manual first. Then worry about the engine. and if youre going to leave it stock... do as kiks says and get a 3.0 litre.

Thanks, all feedback is welcome. But, I am not looking for comfort, normally aspirated or mod potential. I’m interested in stock performance and fun that my wife can drive. We drove a 2.5 manual yesterday and she liked it. She would prefer an automatic and I would consider it if it wasn’t much slower than the manual. I liked the 2.5 but the 2.0 seems to have more power and less weight

The 3.0 is by far the most competent as a stock car in an Auto. Lineball between them as a 2.5 manual. 2.0 is a dog in comparison to either.

Stock figures mean dick all considering theyre unrepeatable. Consider them all the same, except the 2.0's inability to reverse up a driveway or do a hillstart without smelling clutch.

this is true.

and the power and speed doesnt matter. it will still be better looking, comfier and quicker than your rx8 so you cant really go wrong no matter which one you pick.

Stock gt-b tuned to suit your taste is scintillating!

Do not discount the auto in stock form for being slow There is a VL Calais owner with a lump cammed 5L in Brisbane crying into his XXXX after being demolished by a forum member with an auto 09 LGT(and the VL jumped at the lights!)

0-100kph in 5.3 seconds tuned!

Auto is just as much fun, hell some people probably think it's more fun.

I have a 5EAT 04GT, stock, tuned, goes pretty hard. 6sec 0-100 is easily achievable. Then add mods!

Not sure if it’s more fun….. but far more liveable if you’re dealing with Sydney traffic and have a little one in the back.

I know the 08 tb sti Auto was a slightly quicker to 100kph, can’t remember the actually figure, but if you learn to launch a 6 speed correctly I’m sure it would be the quicker of the 2.

The 2.0 is a far more stronger engine if you’re planning to mod upwards of the 200kw mark, the 2.5 has the torque but wasn’t blessed with a strong bottom end or head gasket. Be sure to check out the history of any 08’s you’re looking to buy, it’s not uncommon to see short block changes for spun bears or failed piston ring lands or head gaskets replacements.

As a 2.5 tb sti owner I had the pleasure of experiencing both a failed head gasket and a spun bearing….. now the next owner of my car will be one lucky SOB as I went a little over the top with getting the car back on the road with a few aftermarket parts which solved Subaru’s issues

Thanks for the all the info and advice. I was set on a manual tuned by STI but due to my wife’s preference for auto we ended up buying a Passat R36.

Not a terrible choice.....Libs look better but then again I am very biased!

I think I agree, the liberty looks a bit better. And straight away $3200 for a major service and new brakes! The lib probably has cheaper servicing and parts. I think/hope I've made the right choice.
