Hey guys,
Just joined the forum in search of a good community of liberty enthusiasts, So I hope i've come to the right place . Own an 01 RX for about 6 months now, came with a sports exhaust and is lowered. Not much has changed since then besides a DVD head unit, sub, and the general shift knob, seat covers etc. I'm very keen to learn about possible mods i can do on my baby. I also plan on attending one of your meet-ups to check out some hotted up beasts as i've only recently moved to Melbourne from the country. I hope to be around a bit, would appreciate if someone gave me the inside scoop of the forum, something like a tour. Regards, Steve.

Yeah i've noticed there's not many 3rd gens around here. I would have gone the next step up but subaru's are quite the expensive taste. As far as future mods, thats where im gonna need some help from someone who knows a bit about the car. I want to get a bit more power out of it, but i wouldn't know where to start, im a DIY kinda person so it needs to be kept simple for now as I need my car everyday. I bought a set of 5 spoke 18" rims off gumtree for 150, not the best condition, one has a crack in it but im getting that welded. One question about that, what kind of profile tyre will i need to get so my speedo isn't affected? 40's or 35's? Painted my calipers red the other week, which looks heaps better than the old rusty look they had. Thats it for now. Im waiting on a OBDII cable so i can do a few DIY dyno runs and hopefully flash the ecu with something tweaked to get a bit more out of it, but again, ill need help with that. what width are the rims? probably a 225/40/18 tyre to keep the price down a bit

Measured around 8.5" overall. I took the rim to a tyre place and they recommended a 225 as well. Ill go with the 40's. Thanks.

225/40 will put your speedo slightly under your actual speed. (1-2kmph). 225/35 I think is pretty close to stock rolling diameter. I believe 225/40 are cheaper tyres to get.

being its an N/A 2.5L theres really not much you can do to get more power out of it that is worth it/not heaps expensive.
my suggestion would be to settle for and exhaust and intake, then wait till your off your P's and get a turbo model or engine swap for an STI motor.
DIY is the best kind of doing it. i do most of my stuff DIY = more fun and rewarding.

Well it has a sports exhaust on it, 2.5" or 3" pipe straight from the manifold, to the resinator and then to the muffler. New manifold maybe? As for the intake, what can i do there? How much work is the engine swap? I'd need a new ecu and wiring loom etc correct?

maybe 2.5" headers into a 3" from cat. if you were going all out you could full re-build, replace internals, port polish, tune. but all for not much of a gain.
if you do an engine swap for a 2.0L STI or some other boxer 4cyl they usually fit quite well. would require upgrade of brakes, gearbox, and maybe suspension. theres a guy in QLD whom put a v12 in a gen3 lib. so anything is technically possible.

As for electrical's I'm really not the person to ask, but my guess would be the ECU would come with the engine, also if you get a good enough deal you may get the loom included.
Easiest conversion would be putting a B4 turbo engine in and B4 parts. most things would fit really easy that way.

and an easier way of doing that would be to get a front cut, which would include the ECU, wiring looms and also include the GT bonnet that your after

Well im only 20, i get off my Ps at 22 unless i get my HR license which im planning on. I think ill just buy a 4th gen when the time comes. My car already has 190000 on it and it already needs a clutch, CV's and has a leaking power steering rack. One thing you'll find with me, i have absolutely no luck when it comes to cars haha
