Introduce yourself

New Canberrian!

Postby paggaz » Thu May 31, 2012 1:02 pm

Hey guys,
New to the forum, and might I say what a great one it is!

Sort of new to Canberra, only moved here at the start of this year. I'm an ex-Forester owner, white MY00 Forester GT, which was sold to my sister late last year. Drove around in a E30 BMW 323i TC Baur for the past few months and wanted to get myself back into the Subaru scene. I've been looking at XT Foresters for the past few months, seen some good deals come and go but nothing which ticked all my boxes for what I wanted.

Started looking into Libertys, the family has had a good run with libertys in the past, we currently have a 1990 Lib GX auto wagon in the family with almost million kms on the clock, currently on it's second engine, swapped the first engine out at 500k kms because of a head gasket problem....just can't kill them

Anyway the great news is that by next weekend I hope to be driving around in a MY07 Liberty GT Spec B 6MT Silver Wagon :D

That's about it, keen to get involved in a few ACT cruises and meets when I have the car.
Cheers,
Nathan (paggaz)

Nice one, welcome.

Sometimes I wish I got a wagon but at the time there was a drought of manual wagons pretty much Australia wide.

Welcome! You will be enjoying all the roundabouts in Canberra then! If you're after a fun drive, head out past the Cotter Dam for some twisty roads :D

Miserable weather? only another 5 months to go and then it's suddenly sweltering! :D

Nice clean wagon you've got there, hopefully will see you around town.

Welcome. That's one sweet shade of silver.
I got this plan. It's called 'Save Ass'. And the way it works is this - I slip outta one of these windows and I run like a bastard!

Thanks for the welcome guys, and I'll be on the lookout for your beast Stu!

Signed for the car and took it home today, driven this car once previously and I'm impressed with its performance even in stock form! Much more punch than my old car, SF5 Forester GT... Couldn't be happier! :D

From here, TRYING to keep future mods minimal:
-resonectomy & air filter
-grille
-front lip
-lowered springs (not sure what to look for here)
-short shifter
-LED interior light upgrades

Eventually:
-dump pipe + tune
-coilovers
-rear lip

What do you guys think? Any suggestions welcome...high on my to do list is a good detailing :)

Looks nice Nathan! tad jealous of those silver wagons.

Sounds like your on the money for mods, my list looks much the same with a few extra bibs and bobs like rims and braces.
Your time here will ensure your list at least doubles... trust me

You will need to get in touch with Phat GT!! forumparts@gmail.com

- He can hook you up with a panel filter, the HKS ones are around $70-80 I think.
- What kind of grille do you want? If you like OEM, the honeycomb grille in my avatar is around $400-450 including the badge, it looks pretty sweet. If you're after something more aftermarket I suggest something like a zero/sports grille (google it).
- For your front lip, everyone knows I hate cheap imitation brands so best bet is to buy genuine! You can get a genuine STI lip for around $700 I think. It's expensive, but trust me it's more than worth it!
- Lowered springs....depends how low you want to go? A few members on here have bought TEIN S Techs (including myself) which give a nice ride height, search the forums you'll find some pics of cars with these on!
- I can't comment on the short shifter as I drive a manual but a few members on here have the STI short shifter AFAIK?
- LED interior light upgrades -- > Mr hks180 himself! Leo is a member here, check out the forum vendors in the for sale section for his threads, he has hooked up MANY members on here and everyone loves his work!

For everything above, your one stop shop is Phat, however if you aren't prepared to pay for genuine products, you might want to shop around. Also, a few of the above items come up for sale every now and then so you could pick up a sweet deal on a used one :)

Thanks for the detailed reply Rome! I'll definitely get in contact with PhatGT when I'm ready, and I'm always on the lookout for a good second hand deal

In the meantime, my first mod. I did a bit of surgery on the Lib yesterday. Resonectomy done, I now have subtle induction and BOV noise!
