Hi fellas. I`m a new member here who`s been really enjoying and learning a lot from your posts

Picked up my new MY o8 Liberty GT Spec B about 4 weeks ago and gotta say it just keeps getting better and better!!!, especially after 2 years previously driving a Mazda SP 23.

You might say strange turnaround from one to the other but up untl December 05 was driving a MY 97 WRX for 7 years and at the end of 2005 was looking to upgrade to another Subby. Went to Denlo at Parramatta to look what to get , probally a 2.5 Liberty at that stage. My car was absolutely immaculate in body and standard mechanics. They said very nice car, valued it and came back and offered me 9 grand! At the time I was so stunned/insulted I just turned and started walking out, followed by a smart ass salesman mumbling something about maybe going a little bit higher to do a deal. I was really pissed and ignored his follow up calls

As it turned out I had just bought a nice little Mazda 2 for my daughter a couple of months earlier and in my disguist rang the mazda salesman, who I was friendly with, to complain about car salesmen to him. One thing lead to another and in a moment of weakness I drove out in a new SP 23 a few weeks later. 5 minutes down the road I immediately knew I had made a big mistake. Almost 2 years later I still couldn`t get used to a frontwheal drive car, slipping and sliding. So while the wife was off overseas I decided that was it, I couldn`t take it anymore, left to my own devices I started doing the rounds of subby dealers ( excludind Denlo of course) Got a great trade/deal at Tynans Sutherland, highly recommend them, went thru the Fleet Section saved heaps. Anyone who is interested I can give you salespersons details

Car is auto, Steel Silver, only addition is STI type lip spoiler just to improve rear appearance. Only done 1400 ks at present so still running in. Retired now ( early 50`s) so wont be doing many k`s and wont need to be doing any changes, except maybe improve air intake flow.

Anyway hope you guys stay well and will enjoy your comments on many subjects into the future.

I bought my car from Tynan as well, albeit secondhand. I wasn't as happy as you were with them; because I bought it interstate (drove it back to Melbourne) they were very reluctant to offer any warranty for me to transfer to Subaru dealerships in Melbourne.

Same here mate, bought my my08 spec b from Tynan Sutherland, also went to Den-low first, i shat a brick when i heard what they offered for a trade in, went to Sutho, they fixed me up a hell of a deal!!!

got my car 2 and a half weeks ago..
love it v.v.v much!!!

Great move making the decision while the wifes overseas! Im sure she wont complain after sitting in it compared to the plastic thing you traded in.

Thanks for the warm welcome fellas. Yes the timing of the purchase whilst the wfe was away was brilliantly planned well ahead of it happening. For those in the same situation please feel free to try the following approach:

Step 1. Convince the wife that she deserves a good holiday and then offer to hold the fort while she vhas a good rest

Step 2. Plan ahead your list of places to price cars vand make sure you place the order at least a week before she gets back, so iits harder to cancel

Step 3. Ring her { in my case she was in Greece) and plead for mercy that whilst she was away you became out of control and did something stupid. Say its not your fault, that your not used to being left unsupervised, and you were lonely and confused without her. Even tell her how much you love her and miss her. Then when she asks what you did then tell her straight out with a quiver of submission if possible. In my case her response was " I knew you`d do it after talking about it for the last 2 years". Avoid the temptation to respond with fine then its no problem is it?

Step 4. When she arrives back give her a big hug, kiss her and tell her how much you missed her before she gets a chance to yell at you. Doing this in a crowded arrival lounge helps too.

Anyway it must have worked reasonably well cause Im still here to tell the tale and the car is worth the risks take. In the end after I went through all the cars attributes the one thing that sold her on the car was my final passing comment that the car has a 5 star safety rating, THEN she was impressed only at the very end!!! Maybe in hindsight I should have raised that point first. Never underestimate the mind of a practical women, especially when she has the hand!

Thanks for that Norm. Look forward to catching up some time. Yep retired early, lifes too short not to enjoy it. Worked hard, aimed to be comfortable but not greedy. Hows your vehicle going, had it long,many k`s up yet? I`m finding it hard driving easy till run in but determined to do it by the book. Cheers

love the car,had it since new and has about 40k on it
what sort of work where you into?

Worked in the state public service for some 20 years maqinly in health then public works in the finance/accounting area. Took a redundancy offer in mid 1990`s cause at the time spent more time justifying my job than doing it, got sickm of the politics. Started doingt a bit of private accounting work to keep me going and recently tappered off ,just doing a bit of day trading now but a bit volatile at present, too many bad losses from tech wreck in 2000 to hold me back from taking advantage of current ups and downs.
Good to see you enjoying your car. I found it really hard driving a mazda3 for 2 years. Its an ok car for its purpose but I just couldnt get used to it, spinning the front wheels in the wet weather takeoffs was the pits . Its funny though cause the new impreza is gotta be a direct copy of a mazda sp23, especially from the side on profile. I was hoping to wait for the new liberty in 09 but couldnt wait that long. Welcome Chikka, I went through the complete opposite to you re trade in. Went to Denlo and got $3,000 more on my trade-in than anyone else offered, my brother in-law went to Tynan with his RS Lib and they screwed him to the wall on trade-in on a Lib 3.0R. Luck of the draw I guess. Anyway, lots of good info here.
