New - Hi from the South Coast :)

Hi All,

I live done the South Coast in a lame little town called Merimbula. I picked up a 2004 MY04 Subaru Liberty 2.5i Safety. It is no Spec.B but I love it. Upgraded from a 1994 Mazda 323 Astina BA which I have destroyed cosmetically (I keep telling myself that it is okay since it is my first car =P). I will put up my 323 in the 'For Sale' as well.

Once I have enough money I would like to do the following upgrades.

1. HID Lights - High and Low
2. Rear Sway Bar w/ HD mounts
3. Due for new pads soon and was reading that Project MU are decent? Somebody care to elaborate about these?
4. LCA Bushes
5. XRT Tune
6. Reverse Light LED
7. Audio System.

What upgrades would you all recommend?

For my audio, I want to avoid a aftermarket single din headunit, spending $400 on a double din fascia and any permanent dash modifications or windscreen suction holders. I have come up with this idea.

1. This http://www.dashmount.co.uk/index.php/vmchk/Dashmount/Dashmount-Brackets/Subaru/Subaru-Legacy/Outback-200409.html
2. Then modify a case for my galaxy nexus and fit it to the bracket.
3. Samsung MHL Adaptor to DAC to Amps to Speakers.

Thoughts?

Source - Galaxy Nexus through MHL Adaptor to DAC
Fronts - Boston Acoustics PRO60se 6.5 Splits
Rear - Leave stock for now
Sub - Rockford Fosgate P3
Amps - undecided as of yet
DAC - undecided as of yet

And some eye candy below :)

Jaycar (where I got my kit from) or hks180 can help you out here.

klunkeh wrote:2. Rear Sway Bar w/ HD mounts

Phat or vendors on places like Quicksales or eBay can help out. As for mounts, Phat or places like AVO can help you here.

PM Edward (west_minist). He's got a special running for Easter currently.

Again, hks180 or eBay can help out here.

If you like spirited driving, then swaybars and tune should be first on your list, for sure.

Neat idea! I'm personally going the whole hog and building a CarPC (out of PC components) as a long-term project.

Sounds like some interesting ideas. Have you actually heard the Boston components and the Rockford subs? FWIW for my $$$ they are heavily overrated and your money can be better spent elsewhere to achieve better results.

Thanks :) I got mod fever before I got the car from reading this forum.

I will go with hks180 since I want someone to install it for me.

Probably a cusco from phat.

I wish I could get this done but I am saving as much cash as I can for my trip to Asia. Once I get back I will be itching to get this done. Now just need a tactrix cable. Gonna go halfies with Farugah.

Going to do the same as with the HIDs and get hks180. Need the money first :(

I like the way you think :D The HIDs can wait because the lights are not that bad, major improvement from my 323.

I would love to go the whole CarPC route. I just find it hard to justify $400 for a double din fascia :( A screen would go nice I bet.

I actually already own the Bostons (picked up for about $400 AUD) and Rockford (picked up for $112.50 in box). I love ebay! I am pretty happy with how they sounded in my old car...they were setup terribly. Like, really bad! lol.

Thanks :) I think the South Coast would be better kept as a holiday destination. Growing in small towns (used to live in Batemans Bay) is beggining to do my head in. I'll head to the big city one day :P. Until then, I will have to look like I belong to the city.

Glad HyRax broke it down. Gave me the chance to figure out how to break up the quotes and what not. I didn't want to do a messy post. Plus, easy to understand.

Thanks :) I just hope I can keep it in good nick. Hopefully nobody on this forum will see what I did to my 323 :P poor baby. Never had a chance ha

Hmmm, my pictures seem to be cut off at the right edge. I guess the pictures were too high resolution :/ Is there an ideal size for pics?

 you stalker! First car, first car...that is exactly what I keep telling myself. Maybe I should not have photographed all the damage, who knows what would happen if those leaked.

Yeah, that's the only part of the project that will prove to be really expensive, but it just looks so clean and slick - the project wouldn't be right without it. I've got a double-DIN touchscreen ready to go.

Still want to see how far you get with the Galaxy Nexus approach, though. There's lots of good software out there to make it work pretty well.

Here are some photos of my 323. Anybody wanna buy her?

Image
Just a front on.

Image
From driving over a dead kangaroo. I managed to get it back on looking okay but then when I had few people in the back, the bumper was sitting on a concrete parking things in parking spots, I drove off and it got almost pulled off :(

Image
Rubbed up against a fence

Image
Drove into a low lying brick wall. 3 or 4 bricks high. I used a hair dryer and popped it back out.

Image
Hit a kangaroo. The globe is broken inside. It still works, just points to the sky.

Image
Reversed into two separate letter boxes.

Image
In an attempt to fix a rattle, I broke the whole housing and had to cut the light so it passed rego.

My 323 has had a hard life. Mechanically its perfect though lol

Hmmm... On second thoughts it may be prudent of you to invest in foam padding for the exterior of your Lib instead!

Ultimately I would like to do both. Start with the Nexus plan and then one day have a full CarPC. Is that screen you have resistive?

What kind of software are you referring to? For the Nexus plan?

I should just take all the panels off and preseve them till I am ready to sell :P Either that or trade for one of these.
