G'day Guys,

I've joined this forum as I'm currently looking at buying my a Liberty R Spec B and am doing my research. Currently looking at the 3.0R Spec B in both auto and manual in the MY07 model

Would anyone be able to advise if there is a more favoured transmission on these cars. Any benefits or restrictions with each? Is the paddle shift auto any good?

I will mainly being doing highway driving and a bit of city driving.

Also are the cars at Subaru dealerships any better than buying private and what sort of price would be reasonable for a MY07 3.0R Spec B in manual or auto.

Hi and welcome.

After having a manual, I like the auto for my daily commute to work and the coast trips. The paddle shift is a bit of a gimmick.

You generally find better maintained cars for private sale without the dealer mark up.

I thought the STI 6 speed manual might be a good thing and initially went looking at them only but there aren't that many in Vic and so have started looking at the autos. Is the performance much the same with the auto in the 3.0R Spec B MY07 model.

Is the performance of the SI drive equipped cars better? Or just a gimmick?

The more I look and read, the more confused I get.

Ive only driven a 2.5T in an auto with SI drive. With the different settings tried it didnt feel much different. I cant really comment more as I dont have this on my car.

Ive also never driven a 3.0L.

In the 3.0R engine, I think the iDrive mainly just plays with the accelerator pedal mapping. Certainly in the manual transmission model, there's not much else it can do.
Pop along to the cruise on Aug-7 to see a few nice ones and swap some stories.

Looking on carsales.com.au for MY07 3.0R SpecB, I see 11 autos and 8 manuals.
Limit yourself to Victoria, and that comes down to 3 & 3.

I've started looking at the cars for sale and here's the update.

Urban Grey manual sedan private $25,888Haven't had a look yet. Has a golf ball dint on the front passenger guard.
Regal Blue manual sedan private $27,490 Had a look and basically not too well looked after. Water in the headlight. Rims have plenty of kerb rash. Overpriced in my opinion.
White manual sedan dealer $28,888 At Subaru Glen Waverley. Not sure I like the white. Would prefer a grey car.
Diamond grey auto sedan private $28.990Recently listed and a bit further out to go look
Diamond grey auto sedan dealer $28,888At Subaru Glen Waverley. Interstate car and would prefer a manual.
Black auto sedan private $28,000Left a message as I like the Sat Nav option for the trip computer functionality. No response as yet

For the moment I'm checking daily to see what comes up and arranging inspections on weekends.

Did you consider the turbo, or are you just after an NA?

I like the six and my son will be driving it as well and he's on his learner's so the turbo's out.

If that's the only problem, you can probably get it fixed and the panel resprayed for about $500. This one sounds closest to what you want.

Some good paintless dent removers maybe be able to get it out for less then half of that
