G'Day, from new 3R-B 6MT wagon owner

Hey guys,

I've been using this site for a while now to gather info on Spec-B Liberty's, so thought it was time to say hi.

I've been interested in either a Spec-B wagon or a MY06+ WRX wagon for some time now. I'm a mountain biker and my previous vehicle (Renault Sport Clio), although a total blast to drive, just wasn't suiting my needs. So began the hunt for a 'sports wagon'. The WRX was the obvious first choice, not helped by the fact that 3 of my good mates have WRX's (one which is a 210kW atw wagon, the other a 270kW atw 2.5L sedan beast) but after opening my avenues a little more I discovered that perhaps the liberty suited my needs more, and after driving a 3R-B I found that it was a more than capable drivers car for me.

Fast forward 4 months or so and finally this week I purchased a black 3.0R-B 6 speed wagon. Picked it up last night and love it! The previous owner spent a lot of time getting this car seriously sorted and it shows, it really is a brilliant drive and I feel lucky and privileged to be the new owner! It’s amazing really, as every enhancement that has been done to this car (either from an aesthetic, practical or performance point of view) is basically exactly what I would have done had I obtained a stock R-B, except of course it would have happened over a fairly long period of time!

Hoping to go for a drive this weekend with a few mates for a bit of a shakedown, but so far I love it (okay its only been one night...).

Model: MY06 Liberty Wagon 3.0R Spec-B, 6MT, Black
Mods: Tint, Towbar, STi lip, mesh grill, STi pinks on re-valved Bilstein's, Whiteline F&R adjustable swaybars, Fulcrum LCA’s.
Photos: Apologies for the quality... mobile phone + underground carpark + shiny black car = CRAP! Better pix to come in the future, once i find my bloody camera...

Go the wagon. :)
Nice car, you have an STI lip on there too for your mods list. They dont come standard on the 3.0R-b. :)
Welcome. Doesnt sound like there is much more you need to do mods wise.

Oops, yeah i forgot to add the lip (and mesh grill) in the mods list. Fixed.

Yeah there is really nothing much left for me to do to make it the car I always wanted, apart from perhaps some different wheels once these Potenza's give up the ghost. I was also looking at roof racks but having the towbar opens up other options for bike carrying. ...i also wouldn't mind a little bit of that lovely H6 sound to penetrate the cabin.

Yeah blitzen75, the street bike is a hell of a lot of fun to throw around.

Cheers,

Get the roof racks and the bike carrier. Prob more expensive short term, but if you get rear ended with your bike/bikes on the back it will be a very costly exercise.
Plus, with those bikes, i dunno how they would go fitting into a bike rack as they are generally made for round top tubes, and with the rear suspension on those you might be hard pressed. Plus i like the look of a bike a on the roof. Dunno why. :)
Either way, enjoy the car. :)

 Those photos were taken at St Peters weren't they :P Do you live / work in that area?

Welcome to the club & nice choice of car... Those 3RB's are fantastic & in the right hands can keep up with most through the twisties.

I vote you get an exhaust, as the 3RB's really get a nice Porsche type sound :D

Hi mate, yeah I am in the inner south area.

Exhaust? Yeah I would love to open her up a bit, you can tell just from the stock engine note that it would sound glorious. I just don't have the cash for a proper system at the moment. I was thinking perhaps just installing a smaller resonator (dogbone) on the stock system, just for a bit more sound, but really not sure if that is an option on these systems. Some Phat's would be nice but from all I read they aren't available anymore.

Ah didn't see this post before. Yeah its Matt's 3RB.

Went for a drive last Sunday with some mates, was the first time I really pushed the car properly on a long drive. OMG this thing handles like a car of this size shouldn't! I mean I knew it already handled great from driving it hard around town, but out on a empty 'B' road is a much better judge of a cars character. Its incredibly progressive on the limit, and its reluctance to understeer is a real surprise! As soon as understeer shows its ugly face the back end says "We will have none of that, thank you" and losens a little to perfectly balance the car into the corner.
Well done Matt for creating an incredibly well sorted chassis. :ok:

One thing I found annoying - where is the noise?? I drive by feel whilst my eyes are concentrating on road lines/avoiding potholes. It was a bit frustrating having to glance down to see what rev's I was doing all the time. Perhaps its just me (my previous cars, like a modified RenaultSport Clio, have been pretty raw & tactile), but I think a bit more sound is in order...

All in all though, still chuffed with the car. Its luxurious, practical for my needs and is great to drive. :victory:

Cheers,

Quick update...
My TCP Quads are on the way! (cheers tbear). Just going to fit the rear quads to the stock system for now. If money allows and the ears want more i may look into a centre and y-pipe, but for now i want to still keep it relatively subtle.

As well as that, my Racing Hart C4 2-piece semi-forged 18 wheels have just landed from Japan!!

Can't wait to install both items. :D ...watch this space...

Nice mate!

From one 3.0R-B owner to another, nice wagon

Let me know what you think of the TCPs and if they drone at all. If I was going to get any aftermarket cans, these would be first on my list

Yeah the Racing Hart C4 multi-piece wheels are a bit old skool, but classic JDM goodness. I've always been a fan of them ever since they popped onto the scene. Hopefully they suit the 3RB and don't look too dated.

Cheers Alessandro.

The TCP quads have arrived and look pretty nice. Still need to get suitable gasket plates, nuts & bolts to fit them. I will no doubt post a video once installed to give an idea of the sound.
