A reason to end the lurking

Postby undefined » Sat Nov 20, 2010 10:06 pm

Not wanting to get ahead of myself before I actually have the keys in my hand, but have put the deposit down and just about coordinated the purchase of a pearl white 04 manual 3.0r spec b wagon. Very excited and counting down as well as looking forward to becoming more active on the forum and meeting some of the Melbourne members.

Came across this forum when I spotted Ric's car as I neared home one day and joined when I became serious in the search for a Liberty of my own. Incidentally, I later discovered that same car just a few houses up from a family member and having purchased our home a few months back I now just live around the corner

Handover should take place sometime during the week (thanks to my brother in law) and next Saturday I fly up to Sydney to go pick it up. A bargain buy I couldn't go past and definitely seems to be worth the trip and bit of extra effort, even with the long drive back on Sunday. Bit of a step up from my little Suzuki Swift GTi (which at this stage I still plan to hold on to and keep as a 'toy' - besides that, it was my first car and I can't bear the thought of parting with it...), but have been saving up for something newer for quite some time. I still remember when I saw the Liberty on the road when they first came out and wanting to own one. Always been a fan of the wagon and now i'm about to have my very own!

Will have to get a couple of stickers to put on the car when I finally get it, but in the meantime i'm starting the countdown! This time next week I will have the keys in my hand

Welcome mate, Sound's like a pretty nice ride you have picked up.

Enjoy the drive back, you two should be well acquainted by the time you roll 'er into the driveway :D

Thanks guys. Suzuki is not really worth selling. I'll probably just enjoy the new car as it is for a while before considering any mods, not that I have any plans for anything major in the foreseeable future. We'll see how long that lasts, but that is the plan at the moment. Will definitely enjoy the drive back and getting acquainted, though. Rego runs out next Monday, so i'm trying my luck and have booked her in for roadworthy first thing Monday morning and then have an appointment with VicRoads at 1:30. Don't think the mechanic was overly impressed with having to look at it sooner rather than later as opposed to in his own time during the day, but fingers crossed there's nothing that gets picked out. If something does need to be rectified and it can't be done in time then I can just cancel the appointment without any worry as the car doesn't need to be inspected, but if I can get away without having to worry about a temporary rego then i'm all for it. Time will tell and fingers crossed this week flies by!

Welcome - I actually think the Swift will be more 'fun' to drive, because of the sheer weight (or lack thereof) and you can throw it around corners in a way a 1600+kg car can't handle :)

Congrats on coming out of lurker status and even BIGGER congrats for the purchase of the H6 Liberty wagon !

I know it's sometimes hard to sell the ol' girl, but just think of the goodies you can buy with the money so you can feed the Liberty !

Where did you see me? I've alway been curious if the stickers would ever prompt someone to join. :)

I assume you mean the same model, and not literally my car. ;)

Nah, I think you're being stalked Ric. You have a new secret admirer!

Still not interested in selling the go kart... :P What i'd get for it I can have saved in a few months, anyway. Like I mentioned previously, i'm just looking at enjoying the car in its stock form for a while before I go playing around with it, but over time i've no doubt I will be successfully swayed and influenced by what other forum members have done with their rides.

Is it Friday yet?

LOL. I knew it was only a matter of time before someone accused me of stalking!

Ric - I spotted you on Melrose Drive coming off the Tulla Fwy and yes, it was because of that sticker I was prompted to investigate this site and later join. It wasn't hard to identify you, being the owner of the site and all. The answer to part two - Not just the same model but your actual car. I've actually seen you out front a couple of times and tending to the mg at one stage, but figured I might come across as a bit creepy to just randomly introduce myself out of the blue...not that I think i'm doing myself any favours here! At least now I have the car to warrant me being a member of this forum. No need for a restraining order, though.

Enjoy the drive home :)
I hope your Swift isn't blue, or you'll have a matching garage to me too (next to my wife's SX4 ;))

Hopefully there won't be too much rain for the drive back. At this stage showers forecast in Sydney and Melbourne. I guess there are still a few days between now and then, so i'll be keeping an eye on that. Any tips or suggestions from anyone for the road trip down the Hume? Will have to pack a few cd's (no mp3 or aux in, correct?) and snacks to keep us going. I've done the drive to and from Canberra a couple of times, but not from Sydney. Will be a long day. At least i'm taking the Monday off work :D

The Swift is blue, although midnight blue, so not quite the same. Need a garage for another car, though. Not quite sure how that's going to work with a third car (well, I know how I want it to work, just not sure i'll get my way!)

The hume is pretty easy.. stop half way, and just do 2 4hr legs..

Watch our for speed camera's! especially on the VIC side.

Just planning my drive to the Gold Coast now for XMAS... thats a tough one. ;)
