Hey all!

Introduce yourself

Hey all!

Postby imania » Fri Nov 05, 2010 1:42 pm

Hey Guys (and girls), :D
My name's Ain and i'm from just at the base of the dandenongs in melb's outer east. Currently i drive a 2006 Astra CDTi which i'm about to be rid of (great car when it works and deceptively quick after what i'd done to it, but just so unreliable) and i'm in the final stages of organising everything such that i can purchase an 07 lib gt tbsti (black with the anthracite enkei's) at the start of december.

Currently i'm an active member on opelaus.com (a forum for all opel based cars (sold as holdens)) and am the co-cruise and events coordinator for victoria, so i like to think in time i will be of some value to this forum, but right now i'm pretty much a complete noob and i'm after some help if i can get it. Been reading through the forums for months now, and seems like an awesome source of information. :good:

I have searched through the forums, and know how painful it is when everyone asks the same questions over and over again, but sometimes it's easier to be linked to the right threads once people know where they are, so i apologise in advance, i just have 2 quick questions.

1. When purchasing the car, what do i look out for, are there any common problems? I've heard the lower control arm bushes are quite susceptible to failure, but i intend to purchase the upgraded/anti-lift kit set from phat if they're still around in a month or so when i get the car. Is there anything to look out for in particular when driving? Anything i should ask?

2. Once i've got the car (i've been looking forward to this since march  ), what order do people recommend mods be done in?
Initially i plan on getting the tein phat springs, the uprated lower control arm bushes and tint. Then i'll move onto performance mods. I've read the general consensus is TMIC, TBE, Remap as well as the other mods that escape me atm, but if you could do your mods again, what order would you do them in?

I can't apologise enough if there are already threads that cover these two topics, i did look lol. As i say, i really hope to become an active member of the forum and meet up with many members soon :)
Thank you so much in advance!

Welcome!

Great, you can organise a mini meet for people in our suburbs then! I live pretty close, and I know some of the newer members are desperate for a meet, especially those who might not be able to make our next Melbourne cruise.

Looks like you have done your reading!

Cannot recommend PHAT enough.

I think you have the right idea, depends on how desperate you are for more power though.
When I got my car I focused on aesthetics with a few handling upgrades (sways+links & phat control arm bushes) because I was quite happy with the stock power. It was only recently (last month) that I started feeling the 'need for speed' and wanted more power. I think it's good to get to know how the car drives stock for a while, but that's just me. :)

Anyway welcome again, enjoy your stay.

Thanks for the speedy reply mate!
Definitely more than willing to try and set up some events/mini-meets, they're actually what i normally prefer, love it when it's just a nice small group of cars. Just got back last month from a 7 car cruise around tasmania last month, amazing is an understatement! so we can plan some big ones too, i just don't wish to step on anyone's toes :)

As for the power thing, can never have too much :P but seriously, my car was at 162kw(about 132atw)/480nm, and the worst fuel economy i ever got was like 7L/100km, i drove to adelaide on 44 litres lol. Now though i've sold the tuning stuff so it's back to stock, and painfully slow, so i'm sure the lib's power will more than suffice, i guess i'm just being prepared for when that little menace the mod bug bites me again.

Actually chances are i'm flying up to sydney to pick up the car too, then driving it back home. I seriously cannot wait, been looking forward to this for months!

EDIT: Just found out this car has the MRT stage 1 tune, which i'm not really liking as have been reading this means the ECU is locked by the ECUTEK? And thus i can't get it remapped how i like, instead only by ECUTEK's maps?
