Hi All,

Brad here, 23, IT Engineer in Canberra. I've just had approval from my lease company (please don't hate) for a Gen5 Liberty GT Sedan! I've been carsales browsing and review reading on a tonne of cars over the last 3 months in anticipation for a new(er) car to fit my new pay grade!

I recently (6months) moved to Canberra from Adelaide (born and raised in Darwin) to pursue a more exciting career. Unfortunately Canberra is an extremely boring place, but one of my mates and I have recently taken up road tripping and are on the constant search for Australia's best driving road (Illiwarra Highway, Macquarie Pass NP wins thus far.)

I currently drive a 2008 Toyota Aurion SX6 love the car to bits, but it doesn't have enough gadgets or grip for me. Had a close call on a wet foggy twisty road, involving an animal and all four wheels sliding. Needless to say I was driving slow enough to recover (thanks VDC) but the scare was enough to push me over the limit to (unfortunately... Not!) buy something that could easily handle the conditions and more. I also recently started snowboarding in the last Winter so..... Just another excuse to get the Liberty.

I test drove the WRX, STI, Ralliart and EVO X. But the Liberty has the perfect balance of luxury and performance, perfect for my needs (Audi A4 Quattro was close, but not enough power.) I will be going on a NSW road trip this weekend to visit my shortlist of cars, and hopefully will be able to post pics in the following weeks!!!

I plan on minor mods (CAI, Full Exhaust, tune, sways) as the lease forbids any major changes, but those I listed have been allowed.
I hope the wealth of knowledge I've already sucked out of this forum will be of even more help to me in the future!

Yes It's ugly, but I'm not the one looking at it!! I'll be sure to post pictures of it at night and in the snow, front end only

Ooh ACT club lib might have our first gen5, welcome. Hopefully it all goes well and you can come along to our next meet up - which most of the time is with rexnet because there isn't much of us lol.

I actually don't mind the look of the gen5 wagons from the back, although too much wheel arch gap, hopefully you can lower it?!?

Unfortunately finding a decently priced wagon, in manual and black is almost impossible (in my price range anyway)

So I'll default to a sedan. And I would love to join you guys + rexnet on the ACT side, looking forward to it!! Not sure about lowering just yet, I'm very picky when it comes to my ride quality, so If I can lower it (maybe an inch or two) and not sacrifice ride quality 'too' much it's definitely something for me to consider, plus some new shoes while I'm at it! - But this wouldn't be for a while, have to be 100% confident in it as stock before I start fiddling and emptying the wallet..... And with xmas and new years around the corner I'm already losing some of my savings!

A few of us have installed new springs on the GenV, from STI springs (drop by 15mm) to Teins (a bit more at 30-40mm i think, but dont quote me), and I think Lib3.6r just installed new springs too

Your plans sound good - Tune from Kido, exhaust. And simple cosmetic mods will go a long way to improving the look over stock (too much chrome in stock form)

Lots of info, friendly advice, and honest opinions to be found on these forums

I think one of the first things I'll be doing (within a week or so) is getting the grill, front spoiler and boot spoiler (not the arch one, not the lip, the in between one) and the short shift kit from the local subaru dealership. Know any tricks, or better vendors to get these from? I know that dealerships can be pretty expensive.

Cheers for that info, have it all bookmarked Just spoke to the finance company and they're happy to put dealer options on the lease (so nothing out of my pocket). If it doesnt push up my payments too much I might get the whole lot: Grille (expanded metal one), sti front lip, side skirts, short shift kit, puddle lights (sex appeal) and flexible tow bar... What do you lot think?

If we were in the situation to acquire another GenV (wagon is a must), I'd go the STI lip, grille, and rest on handling mods (swaybars, LCA bushes, and springs)

puddle lights look sexy nice - however if it be my money spending on car mods, i'd be more inclined to spend them on stuff that makes the driving experience more enjoyable

but since your leasing it - it guess wouldnt make that much diff in cash outlay over longer term anyway!
