95` Heritage Liberty Wagon

Postby STiLADYLIBERTY » Sun Feb 15, 2009 5:59 am

Hey peeps , I found myself a half decent runabout and would love to hear any info or advice you guys might have for it .

Its a 95`Liberty Heritage Wagon - EJ22 , it has some 17" WRX alloys but thats about it for mods ! It was pretty cheap because of some side damage but Im not too concerned about the cosmetics , but the rear does scrub a bit on a bent /damged wheel arch on medium bumps. It has a leaking exhaust and some oil leakage but the motor seems to be very quiet and smooth ! Some tragic window tinting , which I think will be coming off soon for visibilitys sake.

Im chasing a front grill and also a steering column "shroud" for it if anyone has spares for this model > ?? also a petrol cap DOOR with the plastic funnel surrounds if possible ? also interested in some new headlights , any info on what will suit a 95 liberty is appreciated :)

Pretty happy with it for what I paid , it has Cruise Control , Power Mirrors/Windows ,Central locking (need to get a remote) , Leather seats , a working Tape and CD deck !! classic , Its the cleanest tape deck Ive ever heard !! Aircon as well , but needs a gas or possible repairs ?
Hi /Lo range but unsure of operation - the lights come on but are a little shakey depending on position , i think the wiring/sensor may be a bit sus ?
Drove home from Sydney without any real probs to my pleasant surprise , it was a comfortable quiet drive - considering an exhaust leak ;)

will post some pics up after I scrub it up a little bit , dont expect a real stunner though ! thanks in advance for any tips or info you lib vets can share :)

Hey Roddy,

Sounds like you've picked up a reasonable "do it yourselfer" for yourself.

And from the sounds of it, she just needs a few bits and pieces here and there to become tidier.

I'm certainly no expert on that vintage of the Liberty but what I can tell you from what you've described you need replacing is that a place up on QLD's Sunshine Coast called SUNSPARES -> http://www.sunspares.com.au/ is well worth giving a call to find out if they have the parts you need. Sunspares is a wrecking yard dedicated to Subarus ( they also sell secondhand Subarus ). I have been buying all sorts of bits and pieces from them since becoming a Liberty owner and their product knowledge and service is above anything I have ever experienced from any other Auto Dismantlers, probably because they only deal with Subarus !

Also, they have a freighting account with Couriers Please which means they can usually provide shipping at reasonable charges. I just recently had a rear door glass regulator assembly/motor sent to me in Brisbane the same day for a delivery charge of $15. On top of that, Couriers Please has Newcastle listed as one of their delivery areas.

So, I think it would be at least worth a phone call to see if they can help you out with things like the steering column shroud, petrol cap door and all those little missing pieces etc ...............

Hope this is of help to you in some small way.

Cheers,
Lok

Hey Lok , Thanks for the link mate :friends: Looks like a good start , just need some sunshine back to get out and check it right over for the "blacklist" of spares needed ...

Damn it was a decent drive home considering the price 8) :D they sure made the grade for a 95 model !

Wondering also , 95 model wouldnt have an OBDII port would it ? I have myself a scangauge II sitting around but anyway... would be nicer :)

Thanks again for your post kind sir ;)

Hey Roddy,

Happy to help where I can !

Even though Sunspares is about an hour and half drive from where I live, I've never been to their premises as their fast and economical same day or overnight delivery charge of between $10 - $15 to my home beats me putting petrol in the car. I have never been disappointed with their parts and how they have described the condition of the parts to me over the phone.

So yeah, you're best to go over your new purchase when you get some sunshine and draw up your wish list and then give these guys a call and see what they are able to help with.

1995 year model would be too early to comply with OBDII I would think. If I remember correctly, I recall reading somewhere that the U.S. legislation regarding OBDII requires that the OBDII port must be located within 1 metre of the steering column or something like that. So, it wouldn't hurt to have a look around under the driver's side under dash panel etc, just in case... My previous ride, an AUDI A4 V6 Quattro was a 1997 model and just made it in for the year model to have an OBDII port, but a neighbour who had a 1995 A4 in the front wheel drive N/A also had the OBDII port. I recently purchased an OBDKey and associated PC software and found that my MY05 3.0R doesn't seem to be fully OBDII compliant as it only shows about a dozen general function parameters. Not too worried though as I wanted the scan tool more for checking and clearing fault codes.

Have fun with you new "run about" mate !

The connector must be located within three feet of the driver and must not require any tools to be revealed. Look under the dash and behind ashtrays.
