The 18s are also specific to the Spec B - is that correct?

yes. They look good but come with the harsher ride IMO. And also with a reduced range of top spec tyres available (Try to find the top line Goodyear, Falken, Michelin tyres in 215/45R18)

Downgrade comment was in reference to the Evo, not the 3 series

Well I went and test drove a manual and an auto 3.0R-B last night.

You guys might not like me, but I wasn't all that impressed.

Manual gearbox is notchy as hell - auto was very nice though
Certainly wasn't as powerful as I hoped
Leather quality didn't impress me, and perhaps the biggest let down, the stereo. I think the standard stereo in my Evo is better

I haven't crossed Liberties off the list yet, I think the 2.5 might be better suited to my needs.

LOL thats N/A powa for ya 8).. have you considered a GT? Power delivery from the turbo will be more in your face which is what maybe you're used to with the Evo..

What stereo comes with the 3.0R-B, is it the McIntosh?

Nah, not interested in the turbo, plus power figures are pretty similar so I doubt there would be much difference.

Yep, McIntosh.

On the bright side, I think I have saved myself some money

You are a douche Paul... "gonna hold onto the Evo for a bit"... whatever!

Suprised you didn't like the Mcintosh stereo though? Its one of the best stock stereo's I've heard!?

I know and I might, just exploring some options. I have SERIOUS commitment issues with cars.

Yes, I was suprised too. Maybe I didn't give it enough of a workout.

Yep, the faster you try to force it, the notchier it feels. One or two fingers is pretty much all you need. The hand doesn't need to move, just a flick of the fingers.

is a bit doughy below 3000rpm, a bit of a kick as it comes on cam around 4000rpm. You weren't seriously expecting it to be anywhere near as quick as the EVO were you? Even the GT won't come near it and it is quicker than the 3.0

Not at all, the Evo is highly modified (cams, turbo, etc), but the Liberty barely felt quicker than a high 15 second car (maybe it is?).

hey Bakks,

Welcome to the forums

I have to agree with Smythie that if I try to change 1-2 really quickly it can be notchy. Slow it down a little and its perfect. I love 2-3-4 gear changes, feels like the car just keeps pulling.. You'd be suprised how quick these cars are , they are easy to drive quickly.

If you're wanting a 14 sec car, you will really need to work the 3RB thru the rev range to get the most out of it or to come close. But let's be honest..we don't drive like we're on a drag strip everday, and I must say the 3RB has certainly got plenty of poke for normal and spirited street driving. Coming from a modded GC8 WRX previously, I must admit I do miss the turbo rush now and then  .. .but this engine is so smooth and sounds incredible when you push it - I really don't care if another car (faster turbo'ed) maybe 1-2 car lengths ahead... I can still keep up and enjoy myself.

Either way, both the GT and 3RB are great cars! If you intend to make it a 13-14sec car, get the GT. But if you're content with the performance and if you wanna be different, join the 3RB club :P ,
