Hi Guys, just introducing myself

Postby circlethesky » Wed Apr 03, 2013 3:28 pm

Been going on this forum a lot since I got my car and thought I should let you know who i am.

My names Matt, I'm 20 from Melbourne and after about 4 months of searching I finally found a gen 4 liberty in good condition in a 2.5 litre manual.
There's a lot I want to do but the only experience I have is from watching mighty car mods so prepare for a lot of stupid questions. :)
I'm pretty handy with photoshop too so if you want to see how anything looks on your car before you buy it feel free to pm me.

My last car was a 1994 magna with an auto transmission so as I'm sure you can imagine driving my liberty feels amazing.

Initial plans:
- First thing I am doing is putting an alarm in, and I'm hoping I'll get a chance to see Rob about getting my windows tinted this week after work.
- I'm trying to get in contact with garage88 about a corazon grill and eyelids so hopefully they will be on their way soon.
- I also want to put in halo headlights and make my foglights white but I haven't looked into that yet.

When that's done I'll either go coilovers or exhaust and take it from there.

Some photos that the Subaru dealership took:

I have to agree with you, just wishing I would get a reply back to my email. Do they not want my money?!
I might try and get my exhaust done first since they are taking so long. So many clips to go through to find the right sounding one!

Just use Japanparts. They have good specials a lot of the time.

Welcome :)

As for the halo lights, hit up Chaotic2050, he can do them for you at a good price :)

As for foglights, any HID or LED globes from ebay will be perfect for what you need.
Make sure its H3 though

Thanks guys.
I got my windows tinted this week, I love how good the black on silver looks.
Hoping to get my exhaust and coilovers done in the next few weeks, does anyone have any recommendations on where to go in melbourne?

Exhaust: Purchase an xforce system from Best Mufflers online shop, it will be delivered to your door with in 1 week :)
Coilovers: Most of us forum members prefer either BC Racing BR types or KiDo Coilovers, vendors for both types can be found on the forum and both are around the same/similar price range

Thanks, from what I've seen the xforce is pretty popular here and everyone says 2.25" would sound nice on my 2.5 NA so I think they will be the go.

How easy are coilovers to install by someone with no experience? I'm worried that if i try to install them myself something will go wrong and I won't be able to get my car back on the road.

Hey, I've just taken another look at that website and it looks like the exhaust system for the 4 cyl NA has been taken down! Unless I'm missing something?
xforce systems for subaru page is here: http://www.bestmufflers.com/bshop/index.php?cPath=119_346_484&osCsid=455d15ac6d9d12d57a8558799d1621d8

I've spoken to the xforce distributor in victoria and got quoted $1100 to get it installed but they're an hour away and I wouldn't be able to finish work in time to get there before they close.

My googling isn't giving me much in the way of where I can order one, anyone know of another site or would it work out cheaper to just wait for it to come back on best mufflers?
I was hoping to have it sorted by next weekend.

Just install the exhaust yourself, very easy if you have a good jack and some jack stands. Or even easier again if you have access to a hoist. As for coilovers, they aren't too hard to install, getting the ride height right is probably the hardest part. Just make sure you get a wheel alignment afterwards.

The only tools I have are what came in my car, but I would like to be able to do things myself and buying some jack stands might be a good idea.
I wasn't sure about doing it myself but it's the only way to learn! Luckily I spoke to a mate earlier who said he would help me if I run into any trouble.

Its not too hard. I've never had anything to do with mechanics myself and managed to install my cat back myself. Its a simple 'unbolt, take old exhaust off, put new on, bolt up' process! :)

I can imagine the satisfaction of doing it yourself.
