These engines look like they could potentially spit out some power. Am interested in the outcome. Needs a charger or turbo 8)

Hi Tim,

Michal here from LegacyGT.com.

Another set of EZ36D headers installed (and first set tuned on-car using Ecutek) in the US.
This time with Al and Rob @ AutoMaster/AMR in Danbury CT.

The car put down 262hp (~296bhp/221kW) and 461Nm on a DynoDynamics set of rollers (latest software) in Shootout mode.

Torque gains are an impressive 136Nm (~42%) over stock! Power is up ~40bhp (~14% as you predicted).
The engine really wakes up above 4K RPM and the dreaded 3.2-3.5K RPM torque dip is gone.

The additional set of flanges (flange spacers) you sent via Giovanni helped eradicate all clearance issues with the 26mm FSB.

See here for some pics of the custom header-back exhaust built by AutoMaster and some videos of your creation at play.

Thanks so much for this great product! A must have for H6 owners!

Michael

Welcome to this forum, I follow your comment etc on LegacyGT since I have been working with Italian Legacy

Those results are absolutely fantastic, its great to see the final results of the product properly applied and then retuned to suit. Kudos to AMR for their part also.

I hope its enormously fun to drive and look forward to hearing more of your feedback.

The headers have really bumped the torque, more than I expected but in line with some discussion between myself and Matt the famed Australian tuner.

Enjoy and thanks again for the comprehensive feedback/results

Hi Tim,

Yes - its a night and day difference. So much low-end, mid-range torque!
The car pulls very linearly now from low rpm and part throttle to redline under WOT.

Italian Legacy and I have a session planned where we will do a little head-to-head and share results/video.

The RAM Air intake would be very interesting. Right now I have a Takeda aFE intake with a 4.5" ID Volant (Donaldson PowerCore G2) filter element.
I coupled this with a custom 'RAM air' routing cooler air into the semi-sealed airbox from the lower center grill area.

On a stock MAF calibration the sensor was seeing a peak airflow reading of 268g/sec!

Just had to copy this quote down - the latest results bear him out

The 100lb/ft and 40Hp recorded -------- translates into 135Nm of extra torque and 29Kw of power. Now that's SERIOUS torque gain

that torque gain is massive! that's like V8/V6 diesel torque figures!

very impressed!

Yes. Its a night and day difference! When we pulled the stock headers off the car, the fabricator (with 40+ years of race car building experience) said these belong in a small displacement (<2L) I4 or I3 engine, not an H6.

I've logged the trip up to Danbury (before) and trip down back to New York (after) to get a direct comparison of logs. I've also logged some more Sunday and Monday to see the after trends continue.

Here is some feedback I shared with the tuner; Rob @ AMR:

· Fuel Trims cleaned up nicely - within 0-10 (usually 0-5%) for Bank1 and -5 to +5% for Bank2.
· No more excessively rich measured AFRs (vs. what's commanded) under WOT - nothing south of 12:1.
· No more negative timing data points (not even any transient blips).

Fuel Trims - much improved (even vs. just adding the honeycomb airflow straightener)
15% throttle and up, they’re almost always within the +/-10% bracket, both banks.

Looking per bank at both LTFT and STFT, you can see how the STFT adjustment swings are smaller.
Far fewer cases of the larger negative STFT swings. If anything I see a few more positive STFT swings.

Even fuel mileage seems up (I’ve gone through half a tank with some spirited driving since leaving Danbury and I’ve clocked 250 miles thus far; that’s ~32.3mpg!)
Of course I’ll monitor this more over a few tank-fulls.

*We forgot to tweak an inherent fuel trim offset we see between Bank 1 vs. Bank 2. Ecutek software usually commands changes to Bank 1 only but there is a way to force a hard adjustment factor to Bank 2 for some compensation. Its decreased a LOT from pre-header tunes to a point that it’s almost gone. But, I wonder if getting rid of it would net more power or just a sign of an injector performance difference in one or more of the cylinders between the banks.

AFR - also improved (leaner under load). I don’t see any more dips into 10.x:1 rich territory.
15% throttle and up, the richest it got was 11.93:1, typically in the 12.5:1, very close to what's commanded.

Timing Advance – has generally gone up. And no more pulled timing! In fact, I see positive timing advance even under WoT.
While cruising, I can typically see +35-40 degrees now. Plenty of +40-45 degree data points.
No negative timing values! Under WOT the lowest I see is +4.5/5.0 degrees!
Seems like it hit that a few times. Before the headers and re-tune, we had a few random -5.0 degree data points.

MAF – no issues. Still rock solid at idle. Since you rescaled the sensor (changed transfer function?) I’m seeing lower g/sec ‚readings‘. With the new scale the highest I’ve hit is ~208g/sec.

IAT vs AAT Temps are still good – now that its gotten colder, I get within 2-5F of reported ambient while cruising.
After a trip, when the engine heat soaks, the intake only reaches about 110F (used to be 140-160F)
and the intake temp drops back down below 70-80F much faster once you get going.

Data log plots attached:
This is all >15% Throttle Position to remove low throttle, low load noise.

Legend:
SATURDAY AM (BEFORE HEADER INSTALL): 1st section, to the immediate left of the red vertical line
SATURDAY PM (AFTER HEADER INSTALL): 2nd section, to the immediate right of red vertical line
SUNDAY AM/PM (AFTER HEADER INSTALL): 3rd section, last continuous section of data toward the right (180K to 225K on x-axis).

Weekend road-trip (~350 miles or 564km) and under regular spirited driving I averaged 32.3mpg (7.3L/100km)!
The EZ36D loves the extra breathing room provided by the headers. Oh and so does the happy owner :)

That fuel econ you are experiencing is amazing, very desirable for any 3.6 owner

What are the stock fuel econ figure for that model?

USDM Quoted fuel 'efficiency':

18 mpg city (13L/100km)
25 mpg highway (9.4L/100km)
21.5 mpg mixed (10.9L/100km)

I've typically seen slightly better, say 23mpg mixed and 28 mpg highway.

All good Tim!

Car is running great, 2 weeks and ~800 miles since install/tune.
http://legacygt.com/forums/showpost.php ... ount=14512

Took a 350+ mile round trip drive across to Benton, PA area a week ago.

Check out these data log results:

Above 15% throttle long term fuel trims for both banks are ROCK SOLID +/-5%
Even the combined fuel trims are typically within +/-10%! Lots of +30-40 degrees of timing data points.
Almost nothing below +10 degrees.

With BAU spirited driving, 4 adults in the car and some hiking equipment, we still averaged 32MPG!

Even below 15% throttle, with some heavy traffic in and out of the city, the LTFTs were typically +/-5%
(Bank 1 got to +7.5%, but typically falls off to +3%).
Combined fuel trims stayed in the +/-10 to 15% ranges. Good!!!
Check out all that +35-40 degree timing advance points.
