4GEN Liberty and Legacy 3.0 Exhaust headers

What are peoples recommendations (Tim as well) on the headers set up in terms of catalytic converters.

I am looking at getting a set of headers soon and i am wondering what i should do in terms of the stock cats

a) are they known to fail after a while? (car has 145k on it)
b) if they are known to fail what kind should i get (Brand and CPI, I have heard some positive things about magnaflow 200's)
c) if they are not known to fail should i get them changed anyway? price to performance wise what am i looking at?
d) if i do upgrade how difficult is it to make sure all the sensors are done up correctly upon installation of the new cats?
e) what would the total fabrications approximately add up to ( installing plus work done to get the sensors in the cats etc)
f) who can give me a good name in Melbourne to get the work done because I am super keen!

thanks everyone :)

We waited for the recommendations - they didn't come.

Here are mine

a) are they known to fail after a while? (car has 145k on it). Eventually everything will run out of life, but they seem solid for 250 k km at least
b) if they are known to fail what kind should i get (Brand and CPI, I have heard some positive things about magnaflow 200's). 200cpi, go with best reviewed brand
c) if they are not known to fail should i get them changed anyway? price to performance wise what am i looking at? Not know to fail typically, probably $450 for the cats installed, be worth a few hp
d) if i do upgrade how difficult is it to make sure all the sensors are done up correctly upon installation of the new cats? A competent exhaust technician will have zero issues completing this task
e) what would the total fabrications approximately add up to ( installing plus work done to get the sensors in the cats etc). Depends on the honesty of the shop involved, could be $600 or so
f) who can give me a good name in Melbourne to get the work done because I am super keen! This I cant help with, there are literally 100's of shops in Melb, go with a shop that's well spoken of

Hope that helps ...........

From what I can contribute:

a) see Tim's post
b) I've only ever Tried Xforce 100 - would not recommend. Would def go for 200 or higher. 100 causes a tonne of rasp.
c) not 100% sure, I got the Xforce ones for $200 each (NZD)
d) didn't seem to have any issues with this
e) yeah, same as Tim - about $400 NZD (cost me a bit more as I had the collector done as well)
f) don't know on this one!

So yeah - I got Xforce 100 CPI cats and wouldn't recommend them, but only saying that based on the CPI/cell rating. I should have gotten 200 looking back.
Price to fit them wasn't too bad.

Something I should have added here some months ago when I learned about it.

For good reliable joint seals at the gaskets this product shown below is simply the best I have come across - that orange stuff that a LOT of exhaust shops use goes hard over time and simply falls out of the joint - then gas leak.

I don't specifically know who retails this stuff, I got this tube from a CARLINE exhaust shop. The 5000psi joint pressure is the clincher, you simply will find no other product that makes this claim.

Highly recommended from my experience with it, doesn't go hard and stays where it should

X'traseal is the brand name

Tim:

Just a little something for you on a fantastic product. Setup, although on poor gas, begs for good gas and a SC :)

I know it maybe like Greek to some of you, but once you research on it, you can sure appreciate what you feel visually :)

Great info, excited about such a high quality item with proven results.

Tradewind, any benifit to fabricating seperate pipes over the single middle section and any recent news on the restock?

Cheers
