Still on a major back log of kits but that is appearing to clear out a bit, I ponder the cooler a couple of times a week, still not happy with all the items I have looked at yet. Still looking, back to a long flow type from Frozen boost just for the moment, got the PWR cooler here still but its not the chosen item at present moment

The temperates of the engine bay on the 3.0 engines is astronomical for a stock engine, typically Subaru! I removed the bonnet seals and now thinking about modding the undertray or replacing it so I have a HUGE stream of cold air blowing onto all that alloy thats exposed at the base of the engine.

I am on a mission to rid these beasts of HEAT - dont get me wrong, heat is good up to a point, beyond that I am really looking to hammer it down to a good level

I havent located the EGR system yet but its typically another annoying heat source that I deal with. I havent had time to find it but if anyone cares to tell me where it is I will deal with quick and show you the FIX for it

Can't you just run without the undertray? Wouldn't that be at least semi beneficial?

Tim,

I sent you an email with Engine Section 3 attached (the H6 section). Despite being a MY04-06 USDM manual extract, it has been very useful throughout the years

It shows the EGR Valve is located under the left side intake manifold (from driver perspective) and can be accessed by removing the starter motor.

You remove the heat by increasing the evacuation. Removing the seals is only acting to change the airflow around the engine bay from the radiator, up, and out the bonnet, not down, and under the car. The way it should be.

I'd start with attaching all the seals again, adding a small front splitter, and opening up the engine bay from the bottom rear of the block as much as possible and installing an air dam from the splitter or radiator back to this point.

Definitely - I think a small undertray that goes from front like stock back to just behind sway bar is go, allows full air circulation around lower end of motor but will keep a lot of bugs and road grime off the sump area

Undertray removed - will do a basic monitoring of heat in engine bay - I want that heat level down for successful high power supercharging

Tried to change gearbox oil today, the last dill that did it tightened the 14mm bolt so tight that i couldnt get it out, my flank drive socket was busted a while ago so good excuse to buy some LOK ON sockets from Kingchrome, the B&*^%&** will come out then

The 21mm drain plug was also over tight, 1/2" breaker bar with all my strength before it would give up its position.

Redline oil will go in when situation resolved

Tim, have you thought of adding an engine oil cooler to keep those temps down?

The engine already has an oil flow through the radiator via a valve assembly at the oil filter diverting this flow into a cooler would be simple and effective.

Ing

Yes, news, you might consider it insignificant living in the climates of Europe but I am finally happy with heat reduction around the engine in its stock form. I wanted to be sure I could keep engine performance crisp in hot weather before I move forward.

We had a very hot day here yesterday and the car felt really responsive even after sitting for periods at traffic lights with low airflow around engine. Goal kicked.

I have been tripping over the intercooler for weeks now, will try and turn it into a complete form soon, its only a 3hr job to get it all designed and in there in reality

A Suitable WTA intercooler has been decided on and will be sourced once the supplier opens for business on the 16th after their Xmas holidays
