Matt,

I will also check out MUD for dinner. East coast was good. Road from St Helens to Scottsdale rocks. Had to go up to Bridport this morning so I missed the sideling this time.

Rear mufflers only, Hitechs, supplied and fitted by STI.

Yeah there are a few good places at seaport, you have mud, levee and silt. Silt is a really nice place but it's costly! We also have a very good steak place called the black cow, it is incredible!! Bout 40-50 for a really good steak and they are big! So if your into that stuff check that out! It's a really good rates place, some people come down just to eat there as well as look around Tasmania!

Well, we took your recommendations, but out of all the availables, Levee won out on the menu selection. The Van Diemens Land Creamery ice cream they have there in 12 flavours is to die for!!! The oysters were as good as any, the crispy skin salmon was good and went well with the house sauvignon blanc.

If we had more time, I would have tried Mud next, then Salsa. Thanks for the tip gents.

Heading out to Stanley and Smithton today. Lunch at the Bridge Hotel Smithton. Then back to the ferry tonight at Devonport.

And that will complete the lap of Tassie!

Next time you will have to try the middle of the island, there are some great roads through there as well.

A bit late now i know but you can get most of the way up the north west on the old roads, which are much more exciting than the highway and go through some really nice towns.

Ok, so yesterday, we made it out to Arthur River and the "Edge of the World". Some basic roads with some interesting twisties after leaving Smithton.

Got to the ferry and waited until 6:30 before entering. Was a good move as we were one of the last line of cars to be loaded on deck 5 and this morning were the 2nd car to get off.

Good trip on the ferry overnight. We thought we were going to be in for a rough crossing due to the 25 knot winds and 3m seas, but most of the night we were head on to it with only a mild 1m westerly swell, so it was all good.

I take your point about many of the inland routes that would provide a more interesting drive, but having spent the last 10 days driving thru Tassie, I did get my fill of twisties and driving. Awesome place and highly recommend it to anyone considering a drive/holiday.

And one final observation:

The volume of road kill on almost every road traveled, suggests that one should not plan any travel between the hours of dusk to dawn! You can cause some serious damage to cars with plastic bars, the last thing you want when on holiday.

As a new member I rate the drive on the sealed road of the highland lakes highway between deloraine and miena as the best road. Specifically from the meander turnoff to the end of the sealed section.

Used to be great fun in the 3 mps. Boring in the TD xtrail. Yet to do in the liberty. Police are heavy on the major highways and of late, are even scarce there due to budget cuts. Civilian speed camera operators for police got made redundant earlier this year. South district are using white tool style trailers to house speed cameras per news reports. Seen one on the brooker, stood out more than a bulls gear.

And Launceston had a unattended speed camera in a forester torched last Saturday , drove past it while test driving the liberty in fact. It looked so suspicious that we slowed down to well under the limit before getting near it. The news reports had it on Fire about 4 hrs later.
