MY08 SatNav Queries

Hey guys,

Just traded in my 00RX auto wagon for a MY08 manual wagon w/ Satnav.
I have scoured a lot of boards over the last few days and cannot find an answer to my questions...

Q1: How do I know which satnav unit I am using?
(K'wood or Denso) I do have bluetooth and dvd but do not have the unit in the glovebox, it seems that the entire unit is behind center fascia under the screen.
I've searched through and found no version or system data in the menus... very confusing.

Q2: The damn thing won't switch to nighttime mode when displaying the map. There is an auto function but it doesn't seem to have any affect, you have to manually change the setting to night when it's dark out.
Has anyone had this happen and found the reason for this happening?

Thanks in advance guys :)

That is the option I'm having to use (within the menu) but when selecting automatic day/night mode it just don't work,
even with the headlamps on... :|

Hahaha its funny i had the same problem with my car when i got the sat nav installed. I contacted an auto electrician and tried everthing but couldn't work out what was wrong with it! Was about to pull it out and send it away. Solution.... the little dimmer wheel.Turn it all the way to full bright. Then pull it back one notch. When its all the way on full bright the instrument cluster stays bright regardless of weather the lights are on or off and keeps the satnav in day mode.Hope this helps you out!

bingo, you need to play with ur dimmer switch to get the screen to turn to night mode..

going on ur info, yours is a MY08 and plays DVD and has bluetooth, which is the same as mine, it's safe to assume yours is the kenwood unit.. my gps unit is behind the fascia also and not in the glove box

Good work gentlemen. The little dimmer scroll switch was the culprit, wonder why they would make it like that. Thanks 3.0R SpecB & Digital!

Hey Digital, From what you say it definitely sounds like you are using the same unit as mine, would you know if ours are the ones
that require the "redline" map dvd?
Reason I ask is I have just acquired V.16 map update (mine came with V.13 and is lacking roads that are now finished and open),
But when I insert the disc it tells me "this is not a map dvd".

Not sure if I have the right one or if maybe I burnt it wrong...

That's standard in many cars :)

If you have the headlights on during the day, you still want everything to have 'day' illumination...

I would never have thought of that but now that you say it, it's actually a very clever way of controlling this.
Cheers Hobber :D

ahhh you can feel my pain.. lol yes if yours is the same as mine, then you need the Redline version (I am on version 13 also and have tried a ton of maps and have not been successful). If you look at your version 13 disc, there will literally be a "red line" on it. But you sir have good timing cos this thread just came up: viewtopic.php?f=22&t=9932

Sorry for bumping an old thread. I tried to run a search and looked on legacygt but I couldn't find an answer.

Does anyone know of a way of turning off the Sat Nav screen when you're in ACC to save a bit of battery power? Just want to listen to the radio without draining the battery if I'm sitting in the car or cleaning it, etc.

I know in my old Falcon I could press and hold the on / off button for 5 seconds and it disabled the screen until you turned it back on or adjusted the sound.

If yours is the same as mine, press and hold the "INFO" button for a few seconds, then you will see an option to turn the screen off.
