Jack and Stand Points

Postby sebmacc » Sat Sep 04, 2010 11:08 am

Hi everyone,
Just wanted to ask where the are the best (right) points to jack up and support the front of a MY07 Liberty? I'll be using a trolley jack to get the front off the ground and axle stands to support while I do the work. Any advice will be appreciated.

Thanks,
Seb

I wanted to ask this the other day actually.
I ended up putting my jack stands next to the regular jack spot for the car as I could only jack up the car from the sides with that as I don't have a trolley jack.
I wanted to put the stands on the axle but I wasn't sure where a good spot would be as it was all angled.

I haven't used it yet but there should be a plate on the cross member behind the sump (or the plastic cover thing under there). Make sure you are well clear of the sump though before lifting. For the stands the normal jack points on the side are fine. I would avoid putting the stands anywhere on the axles, they will move and i assume the diff and cv joints wont like it either.

From legacygt.com, its off a gen3 outback but should give an indication.

Be careful with the side seams if you put them onto jacks, they are very easy to damage if you rock the car or drop the car down quickly. Rear diff is fine to use as a jacking point.

Stands I always put them on the lower control rear mounting point. I don't think using the jack points us a good idea athe body won't sit flat on top of the jack.

I'm gonna resurrect this thread with a question. 8)

Anybody know if this is a suitable section to place jack stands and jack up the car?
I just tried it before and it seemed fine.

Owning an R32 Skyline, I'm quite paranoid about where to place jacks/stands, so I wouldn't put one there. Use the subframe mount points or something.
