Fuel pump swap

I bought a Sard pump off Phat GT which I was going to install this morning. I know what to do once i get the pump out but I can't get the plastic casing off around the fuel pump.

Is it just a matter of unplugging the wires, then unclipping and lifting the pump assembly? I didn't want to pull too hard in case something broke...

PS. Much better fuel pick-up setup in the 2007 sti libs than in the B4 libs.

Yeah, it will be time consuming for a first timer but its better than giving $150 to a mechanic.

Update: It was inevitable....I put everything back together just to snap one of the fuel tank studs that the fuel assembly gets slotted onto and bolted down on.

Now my smash repairer friend will be attempting this.... http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum/sh ... p?t=936107

If that doesn't work, does anybody have a spare 07 liberty fuel tank :(

If you are worried about explosion or fire (and I would be if I was trying it), drain it completely and fill and empty it a couple of times with water.

Use a torque wrench and follow the torque instructions. All i did was overtighten the bolts....Keep in mind i pulled it apart 3 times and put it back together 3 times to test the new pump then put the stock pump back in to hopefully get it fixed by warranty.

Also, take all o-rings off assembly and place them on the fuel pump itself by slotting back into the fuel pump assembly.

Everything else is as seen in the youtube vids above.

A fun fact for anyone who wishes to attempt this...

A 2007 model lib has a plastic fuel tank....the studs are welded in and cannot be replaced. $1800 for a new tank.

New model liberty has removeable studs, so if it breaks, you just replace the stud.

Of course, mine is a 2007 liberty...
