how to remove stereo in 2005 2.5i AT?

Hey guys,

Have found a few walkthroughs on how to do this but all began with having a manual transmission. How do i dismantle it with a AT?

Same way - lift up the chrome ring around the shifter.

I see. Are you just meant to use a bit of elbow grease and pry it off? I got my nails under it and it seemed pretty locked i but its just clipped in right?

ideally u should use a plastic screw driver to pry it out. Not sure where u can get it from though

Just use a normal flat screwdriver and put some thin cloth over the end so you dont scratch the plastic.

Hey,
I have a 04 Liberty GT
I have just got a double din facia and air con replacement from japanparts.com
I have managed to get the old McIntosh unit out and it's sitting next to me
I have the new Pioneer double din job ready to go in
BUT
I'm haveing a bit of trouble working out all the wires to hook the new one back up again
Does anyone have a wire diagram? or is anyone has done this before can you give me the heads up

Look for a post by me and/or svxdc on exactly this. I did it in my 05 outback a few years ago, and more recently in my 08 gtb. Dave (svxdc) can make up an adapter that will connect to the std Suby plug, with wires out the other side that you can mate with your new head unit connector. He also knows the Mac pinouts, you will need to specify which model of Mac it is, does it feed a separate amp through a DIN cable (mine did), or the feed the speakers directly out through the white plug.
You could also try looking at Aerpro adapters at autobarn etc for a Suby model. IIRC, its white, with 14 or 16 pins. For some years now ALL car HU wiring colours have been standardized for all the important functions - speakers, ground, permanent +12V and switched +12V.

I PM'ed Lok and he mentioned the subaru loom as well.
Gave me some good advice as to how to tackle the whole thing as i gather he has done this several time before
That AP2001 loom saves a bunch of time especially when you want to return to stock or change later

So I have my Head Unit in now and she's looking nice.
I'm now tackeling the speaker wires
As Lok again suggested i have 2 x 8 pin speaker looms (the extra one is for when/if i ever return to stock)
i have extended the HU speaker's down to the passenger seat well but am having trouble finding the correct wires.
Do you have to remove the passenger seat to access everything nicely?

Scott, This is the thread covering my Macintosh->double din facia etc.

Check out the data there, and svxdc'slinks to other stuff that might help with pin outs. svxdc provided a cable suitable to plug into white plug in the dash, and to mate with the speaker connector down under the pax seat, and all worked flawlessly. He also provided the bits to allow my HU's sub woofer out to be connected to an amp (and for the power to such an amp), and then fed to sub when I get to it.
This may help - I think its the speaker connector under the seat...
18 pin connector,numbered 1-8 top, 2 dead key places in centre. bottom row numbered 9-18.places 4,12,13,14 vacant
1 and 9 RB +12V (red-black?)
2 V Front right + (violet?)
3 P front left + (purple?)
5 V Sub + (violet?)
6 LG Right rear + (light gray or green?)
7 Or rear left + (orange?)
8 and 18 Ground
10 W front right - (white?)
11 W front left -
15 W Sub -
16 W right rear -
17 W rear left -
as in
1 2 3 4 # # 5 6 7 8
9 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 17 18
When you draw this out you will find + and - in vertical pairs - ie 2&10,3&11.etc. Since you only want speakers connected, make sure you dont have anything to feed the +12V out to where it could come to harm(ie short). You can verify your view of the connector is correct by getting a dry cell with a couple of wires , and flashing them across a pair like 2 and 10, and you should hear static noise from the speaker.

I found I had to remove the pax seat to enable me to run the said speaker cable under the tunnel cover and then down to the speaker connector removed from the Mac output - its a pretty tight fit, and unmanageable with the seat in place, and the plug on the end of the cable. It might be doable if the plug was NOT on the cable end, but I wasnt going to dismantle it to find out, quicker just to pull the seat - 4 bolts and a couple of electrical plugs.

You feel old? Should have seen the looks I got when I asked my daughter what a 'mosh pit' was !!!! Now I go around looking for other who dont know the term....
