G'day,


I know the headlights in the 05 lib use a H7 globe, just wondering what the driving lights are?

i want to get some new globes to get a white style light, not the ugly dim yellow mine has currently.

i'm not a fan of mismatching globes on a car, so trying to get all the same for it

Are you referring to the foglights? If so, the MY04-MY06 uses H3 for that. If you're trying to match the white of your HID headlights, it's going to be tough. Because unfortunately no matter what sort of bulb you put in, it's gonna look pretty bleh! I've tried the superwhite halogen bulbs in there before. Still came out quite yellow (something to do with the projector configuration). I've tried LED's in there as well. They barely register because when you turn on the lights you hardly notice they're even on. Granted they look more white than halogens, but they look very dim. I was disappointed by both alternate bulbs. I think the only way to get it truly white AND look intense enough for a light source, you might want to consider a H3 HID conversion, like some people on here have. Good luck!

Consider the foglights *should* be as yellow as possible to actually do their job properly. The more white the fog light is the more it will reflect off the droplets in fog and heavy rain situations, causing glare to you as the driver.

This is why people in foggy areas actually fit yellow coloured bulbs to their fog lights.

If you are referring to "driving lights" as in the high beam lights I'm pretty sure they are H3 as well (check your manual).

i understand the yellow lights for fog, however i've never had to, nor plan on driving in foggy areas. i know its a big thing to say, but we dont get a lot down my area.

My headlights etc are all stock standard and i read in a post the low beams are H7? i'll have to check it out

The ancillary lights in the bottom half of the bumper are often referred to as driving lights or sports lights. This is because Fog lights are commonly considered YELLOW (like really yellow). I am seeking clarification from the RTA as to how they define fog lights. An excerpt from Wiki:

'The respective purposes of front fog lamps and driving lamps are often confused, due in part to the misconception that fog lamps are necessarily selective yellow, while any auxiliary lamp that makes white light is a driving lamp. Automakers and aftermarket parts and accessories suppliers frequently refer interchangeably to "fog lamps" and "driving lamps" (or "fog/driving lamps"). In most countries, weather conditions rarely necessitate the use of fog lamps, and there is no legal requirement for them, so their primary purpose is frequently cosmetic. They are often available as optional extras or only on higher trim levels of many cars. Studies have shown that in North America more people inappropriately use their fog lamps in dry weather than use them properly in poor weather'

I had Fog lights in the celsior they were yellow but mounted as part of the main headlight unit - I wonder how these would be defined...?

If you put a HID kit in for your low beams you will be amazed at the difference. I got mine from Leo (HKS180) and they are 4700k, so clean white not wanky blue. With the low beams upgraded you hardly need to consider the fog/driving/sports lights. Also remember than a cop in a mood may actually book you for the use of fog lights - it happens.

Wasn't Tangcla selling these kits in Melbourne??

LOL! Jim, the poor guy is just asking what bulb they are to replace them, not to be admonished on why they should be left alone. Next thing I know you'll be telling me I'll be tripping over and breaking my neck because I've replaced the interior bulbs with LED's and it's too dark. I think you've officially replaced Shane in becomming the anti-rice police. Keep it up though! It's good to have a reminder about changing the safety/functional aspects whenever a mod gets rice.

But I tend to categorise both types as 'auxiliary lighting'. IMO, whether it's foglights or driving lights depends on the colour (fog = golden yellow, driving = halogen yellow).

Btw I believe the high beams are HB3/9005, not H3.

Castek, once you go HID for the low beams, you'll never look back. In fact, you'll have to spend even more to get the parkers and even the foglights to match!

Hey if it's rice then I'm happy for it because the improvement in visibility on the roads I drive was immense. Std headlights really are shite and you only realise this when you upgrade them and notice how bad they were.

Each to their own I guess.

The liberty headlights seem absolutely fine to me. But then again, this is coming from a silvia... now THOSE were useless! Almost seems as if they were pointed straight at the ground
