Liberty Centre Diff has had the Gong
Hi All,
I have a Liberty Wagan RS 2.5Lt with the manual trans. After my mechanic replaced both CV joins (in fact he replaced the whole axle assembly) he realised that the issue I was having with my car was in fact the centre diff. Luckily he only charged me for one!
Its the usual fault where upon turning sharply at low speeds the car acts like it has a detroit locker front and back and the wheels slip and carry on. This fault was then confirmed by Subaru when I had the clutch replaced through them.
The problem I have is how to fix this as cheaply as possible. From memory (Ihave been driving it like this for over 12 months now) Subaru wanted something around the $2k mark to replace the centre diff. I have also been told that the particular part that causes this issue is within the gearbox housing so I thought maybe I can just get a second hand tranny and do the swap myself. However to get a 2nd hand manual box from what I can tell costs anywhere from $1100 - $1750 and then I have to put the bastid in. The thing is, I want to sell this car and want to fix this as cheaply as possible.
Does anyone have any ideas or advice on what I should/could do?
I found this article which was very interesting;

I can assure you I have never had different sized or a different ware rates of tires on this car. She's done 250k km so it may be just worn out but geez what an expensive part...
Best Regards,
Luke
