Roof rails on a sedan

Postby Jaz » Thu Jan 14, 2010 6:17 pm

Has anyone considered whether Is it possible to adlib a set of rails onto the roof of a sedan with the view of using the screw-in cross bars instead of temporary roof racks?
I figure you won't get marks on your roof, and if done well the rails may look like they were meant to be there.

Why am I considering this you ask? Reinventing the wheel? Well you could still use weather shields as per normal, and you won't have marks on the edges of your roof and sills.

Thoughts?

So where conceivably would I get the rails?

I might have to bail up a friend of mine who has a wagon and have a look at what the rails are made of, and how it would go being reshaped to the line of the roof of a sedan instead.

Getting the parts may be the difficult bit.

The plastic mouldings that cover the rails on the wagons are $400ea. I know because my mate has driven into his carport twice now with his bike on the roof. DOH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Carport 1, Liberty wagon 0, Bike 0.

Not pretty.
