Leather is great. It looks extra good and is so easy to clean...

HOWEVER, come summer time, you pay the price. After work I can barely sit in the car.
Changing gears with my MOMO/Alloy gear knob isnt very pleasant either...

Anyway, just after some tips for keeping my car cool...
All my windows are tinted...

Im thinking I need one of those windscreen visors, and may consider leaving my windows down a tiny bit...

Will a windscreen visor keep my leather cool lol... Or should I put towels on everything hahaha

Yeah funny you mention that, as yesterday was the first day it was hot enough since I bought this car to burn my hand on the gearknob! (Metal subaru Momo one). I have a basic foldup windscreen shade now which folds up and fits under my seat for when I'm parked.

The cabin temperature is much cooler and the gearknob is only very warm now instead of blistering hot.

Either that or some people put a sock over their gear shifter

Sun shades work really well

I want some subaru sun shades, blue and yellow but I think the silver ones work heaps better.

Yeh im in ACT, and today was the hottest day we have had in a while...

Im no scientist but im guessing the silver ones reflect the sun better...

I've had problems with super hot vinyl seats and plastic steering wheels before but over the previous summer I never had a problem with burning my hands on the momo gearknob or momo steering wheel in my Lib. Its leather seats have never even been uncomfortable let alone unbearably hot.

I dunno what it is with my car if everyone else is having problems with hot leather *shrug*

How tinted are your windows? Dark tints help, but you won't be able to see too well at night. But try leaving the roof open a crack, and either the window shade or towel over the seats. Of course with a towel or t-shirt over the seats, won't look too cool.

I covered my leather with custom sheep skins in the old forester. Leather is a pain in the rear. Oh, and days like today make me happy I have under cover parking at work.

What I do (38.8 here today!)

Front windscreen Shades
crack sunroof about 5mm (to let out hot air as heat rises!)
crack windows about 5mm (to assist with heat dissipation)
if I know my drivers seat will end up in the sun (through side window), old towel over the seat.

When I come back to the car after a full day in the sun, generally its comfortable within 2 min of starting the car. No shades and windows/roof closed will generally take 5-8mins to get comfortable so can tell the difference

I have the same issue. I only have a carport which unfortunately is open to the western sun. And since I hardly ever drive my car it sits in the hot Canberra sun a fair bit.

I have reflective sunshades for the front and back windscreens and for the side windows, I cut out reflective sunshade in the shape of the window. It's very effective when place right up against the window.

Took some temp logs beginning of this year to see if it made a difference...and it did. Unfortunately it was towards the tail end of summer so not the hottest period but you can compare the outside/inside temps. Ignore the 3rd to 5th logs since I used the car and parked elsewhere. The rest of the time was at the carport.

It will always be hotter inside the car than outside - that's unavoidable when parked in the sun all day. The point is it's not much hotter inside than outside with the shades. If I didn't have the shades it would be much much hotter...cars can get up to 60/70 degrees really easily.
