Hey guys,

long time reader, First time poster...

I have a my08 liberty 2.5i (non turbo) manual and I'm pretty happy overall...
Im pretty picky with my sound and currently have the stock 6 cd mp3 stacker...
Ive been doing research and have decided to take the first step...
remove the front doors, and change over the speakers....and run them of a nice amp
If after this, im happy with the sound, ill then install sub (getting signal off the back speakers) aka in line filter....
now for the questions...
6.5 inch in the doors with tweeters?
do they have stock cross overs (or jump dodgy capacitor setup)???
can i simply replace old set with new 6.5" set and tweeter?
ive had quick glance this morning, noticed possible screws where the door handle is (little pop off plastic bit)
is the rest clips????? and if i remove it, will the clips break easily, or will i be able to restore "like original"

thanks in advanced to anyone who is patient enough to help me out....thank-you

Josh

You can thank Tangcla for that ;)

Also, yes, 6.5 splits in front. I believe Cpitts has a pics of his install. You'll need a spacer for them though. Not sure of the details of the rest as I've yet to replace my splits. The factory ones are doing a great job now that the craptastic factory HU is outta there

Being at the sound deadening workshop that Craig ran, it's pretty straight forward.

Pop off the hand grip (what it doesn't bite you). two screws there, one top, one bottom.
Pop out the little cover behind the door open lever, another screw there.
take off the little corner wedge (where the tweeter lives for those with McIncraps) - it just pops out.
then find a loose edge and start working your way around the door.

disconnect the door light.
once you have it off there's 4 (3 for rear) screws for the door open lever, one is under the little hatch where the cables go in. it will just pop out after that.

carefully remove the water skin in little jerky movements following the goop that holds it.
bob's your auntie :)

If you are picky with your sound you will probably find the sound quality unacceptable using line out convertors. You will find the stock speakers sound much much better when you install an aftermarket head unit even if you run the speakers directly off the HU with no external amp.

If you need more power then use RCAs to hook up amp to aftermarket head unit. The stock HU is terrible and you will otherwise need an EQ to fix up the signal augmentation that is designed into it from factory, if you really want to keep the stock head unit.
