Gday all,

I was wondeing if anyone actually had this system on a GT? I was thinking about planning the "zorst" upgrade and am interested in these mufflers.

Does anyone know where to source in Perth?
Is the whole system or do I have to get my own centre pipe and Y pipe fabricated?

Any information & opinions greatly appreciated.

It's nowhere near silent... just in case you didn't know, it's pretty damn loud.

Clarence - This doesn't sound "loud" or am I missing something? Not full throttle?

What I am chasing is the "burble" n "dak" BUT with NO highway drone.

catback system wont be that loud but if you couple it with a dump pipe then it will be similar in the loud department to Shane's car (Scary). Cannons would not be my first choice but each to their own.

HKS can be sourced thru X-Speed, Vision-R and probably a handful of other Perth shops. Save yourself some cash and buy mufflers only and have the centre and y pipes fabricated locally I suggest.

Dave - based on the above video clip would you assume that's a cat back system? Or with dump? I guess you'd be suggesting Phat's?

Look, eventually I do want the dump replaced, BUT won't happen till warranty ends (years away).

What I want to avoid is highway DRONE - #1 enemy for me.

Just like with photography, you can adjust it to how you want. Change the audio gains and it'll sound quiet as.

Andrew it sounds like just the catback to me but as Clarence pointed out sound bites on the net are not very reliable. Take my car out for a drive and see for yourself. I dont have any issues at all and I am running Phats Dump pipe and 3"centre, 2.25" y and hitechs. The sound is absolute porn now but no issues with drone.

Clarence - thanks mate I'm well aware of audio and "gain". To make you feel better - I tested with my home theatre on unity with a 10" Velodyne 1000W sub :) Now thats some "DAK"

Dave, I will take up your offer as I've always wanted to flog (oops), I mean "drive" your Sti ;) Hi Techs - I thought you had Phats? Or is that one of the bits James doesn't know about?

Those HKS silent power just sound so right to me. Little to no rasp to the zorst sound. I reacon they look porn as well.

Best person to get this sort of gear is Michael (Phat GT) :D

From my experience, all the proper JDM exhaust systems don't drone as they have gone through R&D... So I wouldn't worry about that too much :D

If all you're doing is the catback, then there will be a note, but the volume isn't what I would call loud.

I bought the Hitechs back in Feb because I wanted something straight away and have absolutely no regrets at all. Perfect fitment and quality in s/s. Note is fantastic now I have had added 8 months of carbon. Also remember there will be a difference in the sound you get with s/s vs mild steel.

You know I have offered you the keys to GTB STI and the offer stands as long as I can hold on to your keys

I think these are what my mate at work has on his 2.5T GTB. I'll ask him and see if I can convince him to come down to a Friday lunch. He's just had his tune done at ASG and is a little bit happy :)

Hi mate there is at least 1 member on these boards that had this zorst fitted by phat himself, it was a lady I believe do a quick search and I'm sure you will find her car...I think it is even in Jim's zorst sound clip post.

I was looking at these as well but ended up getting the hitechs as well as the quad tip just looks better IMO

Cheers

Joel

Dwayne thanks for that. :D

Yep they aren't exactly quiet in cabin. I think that "perhaps" the inclusion of a resonator within the 3" centre would bring cabin noise down. However, even being cat-back only the throb is obvious at lower RPM and even worse when the boost is on.

I still love the sound itself BUT the volume is too much in cabin.

In the end - I think my desire for performance and burble / pop is in direct competition with the civility.

What I need is for Ferrari engineers to design a zorst for Subaru  They know how to make something go from conservative to WTF :!:

From experience with other Japanese cars, any Japanese exhaust system that even remotely references silence in its name will be anything but.
