Fitting Rear Strut Brace!?

Postby Jimmy S » Tue Jun 16, 2009 2:39 pm

OK... Got a rear strut brace that I need to test fit for Rob!

Has anyone fitted a rear strut brace on the MY07+?

It appears that the location of the strut tops is different to previous models and must be hidden somewhere in the boot?

I don't think the fitment location is different from MY04-09.

It's behind the trim piece... you have to cut a section of it away.

Here's mine on an MY04.

Ah ok... thanks for that Clarence... I'm too used to Impreza's! ;)

So do you need to remove the entire side trims from the boot? whats the easiest way to go about it all?

Hey that looks sweet Tangcla; is that a CUSCO and did you notice much difference after fitment?

I haven't had the chance to give my Liberty a hard drive yet so not sure how flexy the rear ends on these cars are. I would also think that the undercarriage brace would make a good match with the strut brace.

I went in from the boot, unclipped the trim from the bottom and flexed it up, there's JUST enough room to get to it without taking the whole trim off. Then I just guestimated and cut where I think it should be - sadly I miscalculated on one side
In hindsight, might be easier just to take the rear seat back off and go that way. :P

Yes it's a Cusco OS strut brace. I can't say it made a huge difference, I would consider selling it but there's not much point. It would be great with the rear lower arm bar indeed... I should have kept it and not sold it off :(

You can't get at it from the seat side... at least not in the MY07 as there is a panel in the way..?

Unless I remove that panel... hmmm... further investigation required... at least I know where it will go now... just need to find a good way of getting at it!

I bleieve the seat and the trim is the same for all MY04 to MY09. The trim piece is one of those hard plastic, faux-fabric ones.

Yep... all sorted... had to sorta jam the bar on, but she's all on there now... Just need to trim the floor carpet!

Couple of pics..

Once I got the bar to fit, still with the rear seat out but half of the backing trim back in, and the side trims cut to suit the bar:

All back in except for the boot floor trim:

I'm still astounded at how low the strut tops are on these cars!

Hey mate,

It is an Ultrex rear bar, not sure when they will be available for sale though :?

I'm sure Rob will have them up on the website once he has more stock!

Beatrush make rear braces that go under the floor/carpet so you don't have to cut up your trim.
