Preferred Mod Process ??

Postby Hazardous » Wed Jun 03, 2009 11:00 pm

Hey all you knowledge mongers out there, I've been doing alot of reading of these forums over the past couple of days since I joined, and theres a shitstorm of information here, its really awesome!

And I've seen and read a few threads of how some of you have modded this or modded that, and how some people have wished they got a tune done before they purchased specific mods, or that theyve brought something and then got a tune only to have a performance loss or unstable running.

So I wanted to ask, is there any benefit / preferrence or order to which engine performance mods should be completed ? ( Ive got a 08 GTB STi )

1. Tune
2. CAI
3. TBE / CBE
4. TMI / FMI

Cheers in advance!

Ideally you wound want to get all your listed mechanical mods together and then install and tune for them. This will get you the best bang for your mod $$ and save you money having to re-tune it.

Thanks guys makes way too much sense, Hmmm that only leaves me with a couple of months before Paul Harris comes up here for the tune!!!

That doesnt give me alot of time ?! Is this some ploy just to get me to pull my finger out and get modding ?!

What do you mean, not enough time?? It's easy. You could have it all done within one month, everything you need. Not hard. :)

Tune last 100% :)

I think all that you've mentioned is important to get that little bit more out of your car. I think the TMIC & CAI coupled with the tune will give you the most benefit... But it does help be to be able to vent those exhaust gases more efficiently :D

I'd just get it all done before your tune :D All the specified parts are readily available :)

Here is my take :) and it is going against what has been posted, however bear in mind... IF money is no object.

1. Stock car (get it tuned)
You get to feel the difference from stock to how much the ECU standard maps can improve by and then gauge each and every mod for what (=kw atw) they are worth.
2. Then add bits and pieces on... DP, CAI, larger FMIC/TMIC, Turbo etc...
3. Retune and see what the Dyno numbers represent.

Ultimatley do this only if you have the funds to burn. If I had the money that is what I'd do, a Retune between each and every major mod.

Bearing in mind these are all performance mods... handling is a totally different story altogether.

Those guys up there probably couldn't afford Paul Fisher so he's sending his step-brother, Paul Harris. Half price! :P
