Metallic Grill Option - a Problem.

Postby modern_messiah » Mon Jun 01, 2009 2:58 pm

Hi all,

Just got my car on the weekend and now that the initial excitement of having a good car (like nothing I've ever owned before, I'm so happy) is sort of over - though not really lol - I've noticed something that is annoying me.

I ordered with the car the black mesh grill as opposed to the stock grill the standard 2.5i liberty comes with. Now while I like it and its exactly the look I was after (at close distances anyway) I have noticed that from a distance of say 3m or more you can barely tell its there!!! It looks like there is just a big gap with this tiny Subaru logo hovering there.

My question is, can anyone think of some way I can give it some more depth without restricting airflow through it? completely replacing it is not an option because I paid good money for it so i'm not about to get rid of it. I was thinking of placing some kind of finer mesh behind it but I think the problem then is close up it will look crappy :(

It's not a major issue but its defintely one of those "no one but me understands" things. My girl friend has gone batsh*t crazy trying to understand why it bugs me so much

So does anyone have any ideas? It would be appreciated.

Thanks.

- Matt.

PS. And yes the ideal part would have been the honeycomb grill.

What about painting the honeycomb, either the front-facing surface, or the side edges?

Unless I'm not on the same wavelength as you (which is very likely lol, I'm a newbie at this stuff) I can't think of what honeycomb you are referring to?

Its a black mesh grill - it has no depth! Or do you possibly mean on the radiator behind it?

Oh sorry, I thought you had the honeycomb grille.

Yes you could paint the radiator fluoro pink or yellow :) then you'll have depth :D

Get it painted gunmetal grey or something?? That'd give it the darkness you're after, but should give it some depth because the paint will reflect some light.

Meh dunno lol

Double the mesh? You could try putting another sheet of mesh behind it, a different colour if you want to, to give it some dept without impeding air flow too much.

But considering how much Subaru charges for that ugly thing (no offense), I can see why you'd want to keep it if you can.

If it's the metallic mesh grill from Subaru than it's the first one pictured below (taken from JapanParts website). Well, could have been worse. Could have been the resin one (the 2nd one).
