STi Front Lip Installation

Hey Guys,

Just got my STi Front Lip today and currently trying to install it. However, the instructions I got are in japanese and I was trying to decypher them. After about 2mins of doing so I just gave up and went outside with the lip and tried to align it under the front bar.

I noticed that the holes of the lip and the existing screw holes align. I assume I am able to use the existing screws on the front bar to install the lip? If so how the hell do I get them off without breaking the bumper (I got one off but seemed to be pure luck and dont have the technique to get the other ones off). Even if I can't use the existing screw I can still use the ones provided in the box but I still need to get the existing screws off if I am to install the lip (correct me if I am wrong since I am a complete noob at this).

Also if anyone can point me out to an english version of the instructions or if they are able to give me any pointers would be great.

Thanks,

-Martin.

P.S - Car = 2005 GT Lib. with the compatible front lip thats being installed.

pic of the screw I am talking about is below.

just use a phillips head and turn the plastic screw a 1/4 turn, the screw head will then pop up a little bit and you can pull the hole screw off by hand as its a friction fit.

The head of the screw is flush flat. So can't fit a screw driver anywhere :(

-Martin.

Edit: Oh I think I figured out how to take the damn things off. Just took a bit of elbow grease. The screws were jammed full of dust/dirt so made it hard to take off.

Flat head screwdriver, pry the base of the TOP part of the clip and it'll pop out.

It's a good idea to buy fresh clips, as you mentioned they are caked with dirt and mud, and they are prone to be fragile.

Thanks Clarence,

I ended up really prying the heck outta it and broke a clip out of the 7 or so. You recommend buying new clips or using the screws/clamps that Subaru provides with the front lip?

-Martin.

Not sure about the screws/clamps, but when I had an STi front lip (gawd I miss it :( ) I used the clips. I mean, at the end of the day, it's a weak point and it's better the clip breaks and you lose your lip than your whole front bar, right? ;)

buy new clips from any auto parts store, dirt cheap cost.

They don't fit properly and will be a nuisance to take out. Genuine clips are the only way to go.

Much nicer. How much was the lip?
I'm contemplating getting another one, however it'll be expensive as mine needs to be from Japan, it's different to the Aus spec front lip...

P.S. your car looks so stock! haha

Lip cost me $778.83. Reason = City Subaru had to get it brought into Perth from over east. For you it would probably be cheaper and closer to the $700 mark. If its a J-spec front lip then you are looking closer to my price.

-Martin.

The car is close to stock :( Still gotta get me my Advan RS's, Project Mu brake set and some cheap coilovers (prob racing logic).

Nice work mate - persistence and it paid off - looks awesome! It really changes the 'look' of the front of the car - subtle but more aggressive.

Cheers
