Audio for MY07 Liberty... iPod in, for complete noob

Hi All,

As the title suggests, I'm a complete noob to this, so really appreciate any and all help. I have done some searches but couldn't find the info I was after, hence the new post...

I have a stock standard MY07 Liberty Wagon (not very exciting I know, but don't hold it against me :)), with the factory installed Sat Nav system. The audio system installed is the "Type C" according to the manual.

Now I've only just been reading today that a cable can be run from the back of the audio unit to plug in an iPod/iPhone... but I couldn't find the exact directions, and specifically where I go, what I do etc. I also saw posts referring video input on the Sat Nav display - has anyone done this/ know how to do this?

One thing I was hoping to do was if I could plug my iPhone into the Aux input, if I was playing music and a call came through, in theory it should pause the music, I answer the call, which then comes through the speakers....

As I said, any help would be great.

Thanks.

Thanks tangcla :)
So is this the only way of doing it? Was sort of hoping to get away with it for a cost of some cables - not the $150-$200 I see these are going for.

But if that's the only way... :(

By 'only way' do you want iPod control through the headunit, or just the audio through an aux-in and control the iPod through the iPod itself? If you don't need to be able to control the iPod through the headunit then you just need an aux-in cable.

Aha - now I've got it.
Hadn't really thought about controlling the iPod/iPhone through the audio system, and I'd be happy to just control it through the iPhone itself.

Any chance you'd know where to point me for instructions / directions - ie, where the Aux-in cable goes, what I need to take out etc?

Thanks again for your help. :)

As far as i know u gota have the auxillary input in your centre console (Armrest) if yu do it has the aux. input with a cigarette lighter. U can buy a stereo cable for a 3.5 jack which goes into ur ipod and aux. input, then simply plug and play. Select AUX on the MAC system near the CD and u should have the sound. U can control the sound from within the headunit/steering wheel, but to change songs u gota do it on the ipod. Hope this helps.

Thanks Alex.
I saw a reference to the Aux-In port in the centre cosole (below the 12v socket), and it mentioned "if fitted" - I went and checked, and no, I have no Aux-In in the centre cosole.
Running this cable through myself is essentially what I want to do I guess...

Scott,

After i have removed my centre console recently, i think that all the wiring could possibly be already done for the 12v jack and aux.input. Therefore if thats the case you might need to just buy the part and fitted. Its a plug in clip under the console. Got no idea on technical names. With that said as far as i can remember the actual part could cost about $145 but i could be wrong and it could be a lot cheaper. Because Subaru charges a small amount to install it. Therefore it cant be that difficult in terms of pulling of the entire mac head unit and doing the wiring, etc... You probably will have to speak to Subaru to find out the exact cost.

the 1251 wont charge iphone but works good otherwise fades out music when call comes through sms email all still works if you let it.

when a call comes the music fades out but conversation is NOT transmitted through the stereo only through the phone itself

the 1251 charges most ipods, ipod touch and gen1 iphone

if you want to control almost everything from the Macintosh headunit then the 1251 is the go otherwise the Aux in (subaru accessory) plus car charger for the Ipod

Thanks to everyone that that's replied, it's been a great help. I had the car serviced today, so I got the Aux adaptor installed at the same time ($113 plus fitting)...

My question now is, why wouldn't the call be able to come through the speakers? I'm thinking that it might be the cable that tells the iPhone what's connected, ie, if I have my iPhone headphones attached, listening to music, i can take the call through the headphones... so is the headphone connection somehow different to a standard stereo cable?

My boss uses the old cassette-style system in his old BMW (put cassette in stereo, has cable that acts as aux-in, plug iPhone in...), and says he gets the call through his speakers, so I dont know why he would....

there's no microphone on that cable...and there's no microphone in the headunit....

ie... its like borrow an ipod headphone and plugging that to the iphone can hear but can't speak

Hi all,

Did you ever end up getting the part number for the aux input cable? I've just been to my local dealer and they've told me that the part is not available??

Any help would be great.

Thanks,
Cam
