Navigation Screen Video-In connector (RCA)

Postby wildfire42 » Wed Nov 02, 2022 5:04 pm

2007 Liberty Wagon.

Hi all,
My car doesn't have the Nav option.
I am considering purchasing a used NAV screen on Ebay and using for
a reverse screen.
How do I get the screen to power up ? Need pinouts.
Then will it display anything if I plug a video cable in the back ?
I don't want to use it for any other purpose. ( As yet ! )
The FSM for my model doesn't show wiring to the Display
( or any to a camera ).
I guess the NAV control module would turn the display on.

Cheers.

Just the screen… no nav disc…
I’d have to bench test that but I can say on my car, oem system hacked to use the rear AV input for android tv box video out:

Once it’s all setup, and the info button is pressed twice to activate av input, the nav just stays in that mode, unless the reverse camera is activated.

Eg after key off, key on, it’s still on the Btssm screen with virtual gauges shown.

Importantly, crucially, this is also true after a battery reset, it just continues to work in AV mode showing my Btssm setup.

So that’s promising.

Sometimes it’s not till weeks later that I have to reload the original nav disc…

The nav hack is ground a pin on one of the map dvd plugs…
Iirc that allows the screen to not lock out at speed, maybe the function restrictions?

And cut or ground the handbrake sense ground wire going to the main plug on the rear of the screen.
That hack has a similar effect to the other, allowing full use of the screen switches and touch menus.

There is a service manual for the Kenwood nav unit, with all the pinouts, meaning a bench test of the basic schema should be possible.
I found it by googling the manufacturer part number or the model.
Can link you if required.

You may or not require the DVD drive basically.

If you were super smart you might repurpose the nav screen buttons to activate functions on the android, such interfaces are a thing.

And or add a usb touchscreen to control the android interface.

It might be a more popular mod, but the C1 nav res is abysmal.

The C2 screen res is much better but iirc it’s limited to a single input for a reverse camera, however there’s probably a jdm harness available on yahoo jp that allows tv input.

These are what I have on my laptop, if the part numbers are different to yours, try google the model number of the unit and "manual" or "pdf", which is exactly how I found these.

The FSM for your car has a full explainer of how to read diagrams and perform harness diagnostic tests, at the start of the wiring diagrams section, links to FSM's in my signature.

If you need a screen to test on, I got one which is assumed working condition (purchased from a wrecker many years ago) which I have no use for.

You can have it for free.

Thanks, I can check the model number vs the service manuals I linked…
Looks like it’s the usual audm C1 nav with the yellow AV aux input :)
