2005 Subaru Liberty Sedan timing belt kit

Postby SubaruDIY20 » Sun Jul 03, 2022 8:20 pm

Hey Peeps,

Possibly back at it again with another timing belt change! Trying my best to keep these awesome cars on the road.

This time its a 2005 Subaru Liberty Sedan 2.5L naturally aspirated EJ253 SOHC, automatic transmission, right hand side drive.

Does anyone know the genuine Subaru timing belt kit number? I want to change the belt, pulleys; and if it has an automatic tensioner, I want to change that too.

Also what water pump does it use?

Been searching online but can't seem to get a straight answer.

Cheers

Personally I'd do a vin search on Partsouq com: see the red link in my signature for more info.

This is your car on Opposedforces site: http://opposedforces.com/parts/legacy/en_b13/type_16/

Here's the timing components on Opposedforces site: http://opposedforces.com/parts/legacy/e ... tration_2/

Heres the water pumps, you want destination code KA for Australia, plus the correct year/month range according to your build date/plate: http://opposedforces.com/parts/legacy/e ... ater_pump/

Some manufacturers are recommended over others, some are more "oem" than others...

Some have Japanese bearings in the kit, others not, some have single row bearings, others double. See this article: https://www.blingstrom.com/diy-project/ ... est-prices

Generally Aisin or Ajusa are oem quality with Japanese bearings, so I did a search for Aisin kit "21111AA280", which is your water pump p/n...

It seems that there might be no specific kit with that pump part number, which leaves doing a forum search, buying individual parts or asking for a printed quote at the dealership, which might include the kit number in the results.

Some forum search results:
https://www.subaruoutback.org/threads/w ... ic.525585/
https://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/to ... mp-part-s/

Anyhow, I dug up my son's 2004 2.5i vin and searched partsouq: https://partsouq.com/en/catalog/genuine ... L54G004966

Looks like I'll be ordering individual parts, eg timing kit and pump separately, or just get a quote from the dealership.
