Anyone know what this is for and why the previous owner might’ve unplugged it?

Can post an image when I’m not on my phone…

Pic would be good.

There is a connection to the Body Integrated Unit, at terminal 8 (VB wire) of the Turn Signal Hazard Module that is also the ground input from the hazard switch. That could possibly be used by the BIU to activate the hazard lights when the remote key fob button is pressed. Maybe the fault is in the BIU?

I might need to test my car to figure this out with out any more guessing!

Here's a pic of the plug that I found disconnected under the dash. https://ibb.co/z62SJbJ

You can use the FSM wiring diagrams to get to the assignments for the plug, iirc it runs the row of switches below the mirror aiming switch…

Is your car pre or postfl, my06 or my07, hid headlights with washers?

Here's the 2006 indicator wiring diagrams: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/vcd513njd8aa ... OUGna?dl=0

Here's an 04-09 general market FSM link: https://www.dropbox.com/s/9wxtxaxf44hsh ... 9.pdf?dl=0

Open the document and search it using keywords "turn signal", I tried pulling all the related pages but its a better idea to have the complete document and use search.

How likely is it that its the aftermarket alarm causing the lights?

Previous owner installed a siren in the engine bay, looks like the wires have been cut... could the alarm be going off and simply not alerting me as the siren is not working?

I've not yet tried pressing the unlock button on the driver's side when I have the issue.

Or could this possibly be due to issues with an alternator? I've previously had a low voltage engine fault come up, but have since replaced the battery.

I remember the FSM procedures might have mentioned aftermarket accessories as a consideration…

Are you in Melbourne? I’d be happy to take a look.

Typically the aftermarket alarms have their own drivers for the indicators. This means that they would be connected directly to the indicators on the vehicle. An internal fault with the alarm may cause the indicators to stay on.
If you can find the alarm, you could test which wires are the indicators by testing them with a test light when activating the LH and RH indicators in the normal way. If you were to unplug the alarm, the vehicle may not start or power on the ignition (depends how the fitter wired it) so it best to test the indicators and disconnect only those two alarm wires. Commonly aftermarket alarms use all black wires for security but you may find two of them spliced in to the vehicle near the flasher module.

I am in Melbourne! A couple of updates:

So i havent had the issue for the last couple of days. Oddly, my battery was dead and needed a jump, a few days later the same thing. I used my multi to check the voltage and was getting 12.00V when off. Went out and replaced the battery and so far haven’t had the issue but I’m not convinced it’s fixed. I think if I get it again (knock on wood), I’ll be looking at that alarm…
