Starts then stalls?

Postby MPete44 » Sun May 09, 2021 11:53 am

Hello, new here I’ve had a not so good run atm with my 2001 liberty 2.5 N/A. The car starts every time but stalls almost immediately as soon as it drops below 1500rpm. If I hold the accelerator down a little it will idle but runs really rough. Presume the wrong air/fuel mix? If I hold it above 2000 rpm it sounds like it’s running well but soon as it drops under 2000 it’ll be pretty rough

Currently changed the fuel pump, fuel filter, idle control valve & crank angle sensor. Was serviced 10,000km ago but might change the plugs next just too see. All no luck I’m all out of ideas, first thought was the MAF but I can’t see one on these liberty’s take it they run a different system? Any ideas please let me know, thanks for reading

Have you checked all your vac lines and hoses?

presume just the lines that run into the air box & off the inlet manifold around the throttle body right? Those are okay

Or are there any other lines that can cause a stall which could be cracked/split?

I would be checking all hoses you can see :)

Also suggest to follow the engine diagnostics FSM for your car:

Is the car spitting out any codes?

Thanks for the link I’ll have a flick through that! I don’t have an engine light on and I don’t have an OBD reader but I’ll see if I can source one off a mate and see if anything comes up, otherwise I’ll have to give up and take it too a mechanic
