We've got brown with white, and black with yellow. I feel like maybe I shouldn't plug them together...?

Have you tried testing the contacts with a multimeter too see what's going on voltage/polarity wise?

There's a thought... just hoping someone would chime in with, oh yeah, I've seen behind the kick panel before, don't worry about it.

Hopefully it doesn't require investigation...

Where are these plugs?
Test mode plugs are under the dash.
The fans will cycle etc when one pair is connected.
Iirc the car will be undrivable in test mode.

Sorry, I have a hell of a time whenever I try to rotate pics; they bloody un-rotate when I upload them! Tried copy/paste as new image to ditch the EXIF info, no dice. Damn hassle.

Anyway, on the right of the pic you can see the bonnet release. I thought I half-remembered something about test plugs, and although I struggled with the kick panel trim a bit to get it off, it's hard to imagine managing to unplug this connection accidentally. Car seems to work fine since I left it.
