Not sure what else to call them. The whole headlight unit.

I posted here about globe changing, then about the fact that, having changed a globe, the low beams were so dim that they were useless. Deciding that the symptoms were very much those of a deteriorating reflector surface I am changing the entire units. I have gone through taking off the entire front end of the car (or it felt like it). I am going to just change all the globes while I am at it!

OK. The problem is the new (chinese not Genwine) nacelle looks a bit different from the old one. I have posted photos. I need to know whether I need to move the arrowed part across to the new headlight. There is some sort of potentiometer on both the old and the new headlights: the old on the arrowed box and the new just into what I assume is the HID driver. I _think_ I will not have to, but just want to be sure.

Thanks for any help.

Nacelles are any pod hanging from wings otherwise seperate from an aeroplanes fuselage.

A complete headlight is simply referred to as a headlight assembly. The lights are powered by looms, sub looms via plugs and sockets.

You can find wiring specifics including plug pinouts and wiring assignments in the FSM.
If the new lights are JDM, compare the JDM FSM to an ADM FSM, FAQ link in my signature.

If you can be more clear about what you’re trying to achieve I can probably find a related DIY post for you. :good:

Ha I knew the term but had to google the specifics regardless.

I guess we’re at an impasse because I can’t quite get a grip on what you’re trying to achieve.

If both headlights are Australian domestic market (ADM) original equipment manufacturer (OEM) assemblies, they should be plug n play, that is, directly swappable.

One caveat being the 03-06 generation 4 (gen4 pre facelift/prefl) low beam mounts are known to just fall to bits when the globes are replaced.

Anyway I’m here to help.
Not help you specifically, but to help me, help you primarily.

Let me know if there’s anything else you’re unclear on.
This is a safe bully free place to get advice, so don’t hold back even if it’s just to vent! :good:

Oh yeah, the FSM is the factory service manual, aka workshop manual.
The link to these is in my signature.

Its the bible for your car so good to have.

I’m very familiar with the FSM, so let me know if you need any info extracted.

Got a link to the Chinese headlights you bought?

They might be intended for the usdm market, its a distinction worth checking, as they could be left hand drive specific.

Same for Japanese domestic market (JDM) as some models were HID equipped.

All ADM prefl headlights are essentially the same part number (p/n).

The potentiometer you mentioned is probably the headlight aiming screws/s.

One is left/right, the other up and down.

You what?

No, thank you for the English lesson.

Its true I’d been labouring under the impression that a nacelle specifically referred to the leading edge of a compressor shroud, but the term includes pods as described, so going and checking the definition one of my favourite words was very informative.

I also found out that when checking compressor blade shoulders, lookout for chips.
