McIntosh Stereo Wiring Diagram

Postby bumgoop » Sun Mar 22, 2020 8:24 am

Hey lads and ladettes, recently been trying to swap out my rear sub woofer in my 2009 Liberty Sedan because my stock one crumbled after years of sun damage, I successfully got it in but now I've realised the stock McIntosh amplifier isn't powerful enough to run it, or, the channel to the rear in completely dead because there's no power running through it, potato pitato.

I went ahead and bought a 1000w Pioneer amplifier, which should be plenty enough power (and working channels), but now I just need to rewire the lot to make it work, which has been the issue because I absolutely cannot find a wiring diagram for my specific car, and I don't want to run off the wrong information because i'd just be digging myself a grave at that point.

So if anyone could help me out with finding a stereo wiring diagram for a 2009 Subaru Liberty 2.5i Sedan, I would be eternally grateful.

Cheers, Finley.

Is it a gen4 or GenV ?
Wiring diagrams are in the FSM aka workshop manual, link in my signature.

But generally for a sub & amp install, you’d use a line converter for the signal (from you stock sub speaker wire).
You’d run a fused power wire from the battery to your amp and install a body ground, and sub power signal wire.

But perhaps just using the stock setup with a shallow mount 8” sub with similar efficiency to the stock unit would be simpler for you?

Kicker, soundlabs, jaycar etc all make suitable stock replacement subs.

You could be forgiven for thinking this forum is hard to search, but it is not so:

See what I did there? Change keywords to suit query :good:

Its a Gen4,

I had a look through your signatures, really helpful stuff, insane amount of information there i though id never be able to find, you're a lifesaver. Found the SFM for the 2009 Legacy, forgive me for being uncultured, is the Liberty basically the same as a Legacy?

I'm not too educated in the field of wiring and stereo installs, so I've got a friend doing it for me, ill be sure to let him have a look over all of this stuff before he gets to work.

I bought a 900w Polk MM1 Sub, on sale for half price. It is quite large so I did have to zip tie some rubber to the metal bars in my boot, they do rub together but barely enough to cause damage.

And my apologies for the lack of forum expertise, this is my first ever thread!

Always a pleasure to help out. :)

I’d still recommend a line level converter, perhaps tapped off a rear speaker wire if your Mac amp sub channel is blown.
Perhaps reinstall the original sub to check?

Iirc the McIntosh wiring diagram should apply to Usdm legacy, if not try a JDM or EUDM FSM.
