Aftermarket actuators

Sorry, I know that actuator questions are posted commonly and I tried searching for an answer to my question.

I inherited a gen 4 liberty with all 4 door actuators non-functioning (indicators blink while pressing buttons on the remote, can hear noises from the 4 doors when trying to use central locking but no activation).

My question is, as these parts are quite expensive, apparently unreliable, and difficult to install, is it possible to just purchase an aftermarket 4 door remote central locking kit and have that installed instead?

That’s an unusual fault mode, thus you’d read up on the diagnostic procedure in your factory service manual.

I have to say, with the FSM procedures, it’s not a massively difficult job, if you’re patient lol.

The parts are not that unreliable (270k on my car all good, one replaced on our other car at 250k) and are not that expensive from a self serve wreckers and or eBay replacement motors.

Basically from a little research, aftermarket actuators with a dedicated remote are not recommended in this instance, way more difficult than diagnosing and fixing the actual problem.

When replacing your key fob battery, don’t loose the tiny chip in the case near the base of the blade, and if required be prepared to resolder the battery cage back on the pcb.
