Cosmetic mods to 2.5i MY07

Postby P3t3 » Mon Mar 04, 2019 6:06 pm

Hi Guys,

I have a Liberty 2.5i MY07 Sedan Blue.

Been planning to do a few cosmetic mods for years. Finally getting around to it!

My reason for modding is to make my baby a little more sporty looking. Not too much - "less is more".
Will also get nice matching black or gunmetal wheels down the track.

I bought the first 3 parts from Ultrex - Rob's a good guy, answered my questions.

1. Sports Grill (Carbon Fibre)

2. Front Lip (polyurethane)

3. Diffuser (Carbon Fibre)

4. Exhaust tips

Just a few questions before I start:
1. Do I need to let my car insurer (NRMA) know of these modifications? Even though they are purely cosmetic.

2. I haven't installed the Exhaust tips yet. Measuring it, it may extend a few millimeters or even 0.5 cm or 1 cm past/outside the bumper bar. (I'll find out when it's installed.)
Does anyone know if the NSW law say anything about exhausts protruding past the bumper bar?

3. From the card door, the max tyre size is 215/45R17, and the max RIM Profile (from the car door) is 7JJ.
I currently have 17" wheels meeting the manufacturer specifications. If I upgraded to 18" wheels, would I need to:
a) re-calibrate the speedometer, tachometer, and any other gauges because of the size increase?
b) I assume I would have to let my car insurer know. For insurance purposes.
c) Anything else I would need to know about if increasing the wheel size by 1"?

Thanks guys.

1. Yes you would need to contact your insurer if you do any body modifications

2. Would have to check with RMS nsw

3. a) yes you will need to re-calibrate the speedometer
b) yes, let your insurer know
c) I would consider going 225 or 235 while your at it and 40 profile to maintain adequate clearance when you go over bumps and potholes. Also get 8 inch wide rims if possible otherwise 7.5 is fine.
