Loud high pitched final drive whine 07 3.0 RB
Posted: Sun Jul 15, 2018 10:12 pmI have an 07 Gen 4 3.0 RB (6MT). So I was driving home today from been away for the weekend about 30 min into a 90 min drive a whine gradually appeared.
It sounds like it is coming from the middle to rear of the car and changes its pitch with your total speed. It happens on acceleration and deceleration but not coasting. It is loud and you hear it for 0km/h+
Rear diff bearings? Centre diff bearings? Gearbox output bearings?
I am mechanically minded (i.e. have done head gaskets on previous cars, replaced the hydraulic chain tighteners on this car a couple years ago). The centre diff has been binding when hot for a while. How should I diagnose this further?
