Connecting phone

I want to connect my phone to the Macintosh sound system in my 2012-13 Liberty GT.
There she to be two processes, one for phone and one for music. I can't get them both to work. If I go through the phone process, I get "Connected no media". If I go through the media version I get connected no phone.
Anyone help me here? Seems weird.

What phone?
I have no issues connecting my Android phones (5.1.1 and 6.0).
I let the phone auto connect with the car after setting it up.

Hey! Thanks for the reply. Its a 5.1.1. It _seems_ to work now, although I still get weird messages about devices already connected and another device already connected, but then phone and music both work

Yeah our head units are old and some times don't work properly (I'm back to using my Xperia Z3, v5.1.1 and phone didn't connect last night).

Funny thing is our other car's a 3010 Hyundai Getz and that just plugs and plays both phones

Yeah I'd figure a car that's 1,000 years newer would work
But I know the feeling, my old Sony head unit with bluetooth (from pre 2010) works flawlessly with all my phones.

Things _seem_ to have settled but now I have to get my wife's phone working with it

If in doubt, delete the phone and re-connect.
