Air suspension to springs

Postby gatsby » Thu Apr 28, 2016 5:35 am

hi guys,

I'm travelling around Oz and bought a cheap Liberty 93 wagon AWD. I want to change the rear suspension to coil springs. this might sound like a stupid question but this is my first Subaru, is it possible to just buy springs and fit them over the airbag struts or must I get new struts too?
Is it easy to do?
I'm in Perth , does anybody have springs/struts to sell?
Cheers

Highly unlikely you have air bags on a liberty.

Easiest way is to buy complete struts with springs and swap them all over, or you can just buy springs but that takes a bit longer and you need a spring compressor.

93 wagons did have air suspension.
Its not possible to fit springs to the air struts, so you will have to replace the lot with new strut/spring setup.
I doubt you could just do the rears on their own, you would have to do the fronts aswell, because from memory the air suspension is self levelling so just doing the rears would mess with the whole system.

Yeah it definitely is air suspension. I can hear it leaking air plus there's a height control button on the dash.
Anyway thanks for your help, I managed to source some struts today so will get on it this weekend
