Gear selector bushes 6-speed

Postby swatts » Wed Mar 23, 2016 8:05 pm

Does anyone happen to know if the gear selector bushes for an 04 sti 6 speed box would be the same as for the 06 model? We managed to order the wrong year set and the dude from Entra imports doesn't seem inclined to answer an email to resolve the issue. I don't want to pull it apart to find that they won't fit. The gear stick is like a wooden spoon in a pot of porridge atm.

Sounds like a question for BillyCorgi to answer, I don't believe there is any difference between the two though.

To the best of my knowledge, the bushes in the Gear Shift Uni-Joint Knuckle and in the gear lever are the same through all the Gen4 Spec-B 6 Speeds.

Were you supplied the correct bushes? Please post the part number you were supplied.
OEM are 35035AG030 for the Uni-Joint and 35035FE030 for the Gear Lever.

Maybe, you should have gotten your bushes from me??
Betterer than OEM, if I do say so myself. And lower cost.

Thank you to the corgis.

We launched into the job and changed them over. The 06 model bushes do fit - they slide in easily. From reading info from Turn In Concepts, the 04 bushes are somewhat tighter to get in, so there may be a few microns difference.

We took the "remove the roll pin" method rather than "pull apart in situ". The roll pin can be removed using a length of 1/4" rod about 300mm long. The trick is to grind/file a small spigot in the end to take the centre of the roll pin which keeps it centred while you hit the bejesus out of the other end with a hammer. It come out eventually.

Thanks again to the corgis and other contributors which makes working on cars a whole lot easier.

This is a useful step-by-step description plus photos for this job: http://turninconcepts.com/install_forum ... ?f=33&t=12

The bushes that I manufacture/supply tap into the uni-joint with a rubber mallet.
Just a light tap to get them home.

Knocking out the roll pin is the easiest method in the long run.
There are also some flats on the top of the vertical pointing bolt grab hold of to hold that bolt while removing the self locking nut.

Good to see that you got the job done.
(Still should have gotten your bushes from me. LOL)
