Removing 6MT

Postby boltz » Tue Mar 15, 2016 11:25 pm

Hi All,
I'm removing the 6MT from my '05 3.0R-B.
I've been told that on some Subarus the clutch fork needs to be disconnected to remove the gearbox.
Is this the case on my car? If so I assume that the steering rack will need to be removed to get access from underneath.

Yep, sorry Billy, I reread the manual and found that bit just before I came back here. Sorry for wasting your time

I'm now puting the 6MT back in. The manual says to fit the throwout bearing, clutch fork and pivot pin into the bellhousing before fitting to the engine.
I'm having trouble getting the b/housing to meet the block. Should I persevere, or should I try removing the pivot pin from the fork and fit the throwout to the pressure plate?

Follow the instruction in the manual. The throw out bearing will "click" into pace in the pressure plate when things are right.
You may be having trouble getting the splines on the gearbox input shaft to line up with the clutch driven plate.

When I am putting an engine in I leave the car in 4th gear and rock the car backwards and forward slightly to get the engine and gearbox to "mesh"
Depending upon what part (engine or gearbox) that is being put back in, you may need to try your version?
If you are putting the gearbox back in to a stationary engine, try having someone move the crankshaft pulley with a spanner while you are trying to bring the two together.
Good Luck!

(We put Junior's recond engine in on Saturday. Had to do just like I explained to bet engine and gearbox back together again.)
